The Russians have long been cast as using their prisons as covers for political persecution up to and including murder. Since few sane people will believe that Epstein just hung himself without assistance while on suicide watch, the Russians will imply that the US runs corrupt and oppressive prisons, and that American justice is political, possibly even worse than Russia’s. “See, everybody does it.
