Mardie, have you seen Simon Schama’s Power of Art, originally a BBC miniseries I think? I got it from the library.
Caravaggio and Bernini are 2 of the 8 artists covered. A very dark series, IMO but I guess he had to inject a lot of drama to make it interesting.

Cellini was another one with a dramatic story. Along with the book of academic nudes mother gave me when I was less than 10 years old, she gave me Cellini’s Autobiography.
