KFC in Australia is re-embracing the chains full historic name it was known as prior to the 1990s: Kentucky Fried Chicken.
It could be the end for the initials KFC. Not only that but the chicken chains famous slogan Finger Lickin Good is also having a renaissance. The firms Australian arm is busying itself trademarking a slew of retro themed logos, including a new signature for Colonel Sanders.
Marketing and trends experts have told news.com.au, the re-emergence of the firms full name is a sign the public, wary of the modern day, is finding solace in nostalgia.
Its also an embrace of so-called dude food and rejection of incessant messages for us to eat healthier.

It wasnt the words Kentucky or Chicken that were the problem, but Fried.

KFCs celebration of its buckets full of battered badness was no longer resonating with health conscious diners.
At the time there was a potent fear of fat so there was a belief, apparently, that diners would forget that a fried chicken store was selling fried chicken Dr Lauren Rosewarne, a trends expert at Melbourne University, told news.com.au.
Flash forward several decades and fat has become much less of a bogeyman than sugar and bread.

Ah, it’s better than KFU.
I love Kentucky Fried Chicken. I rarely get it, because I’m a cheapskate.
I’m not worried about fat. In 2009 I had to have 3 arterial stents installed, but I’m convinced it was because of all the pop I drank while growing up: 5-6 16 oz bottles per day.
My cholesterol are numbers now are consistently very good. I’ve had two doctors tell me they’ve never seen anyone with HDL (good cholesterol) higher. My last test was HDL = 85.
Looks like KFC is starting to consider trying to reintroduce people to Kentucky Fried Chicken, hoping younger people will say "oh, K. F. C., I get it. Cool."
So they drop “fried” but people still come in and order the chicken......that fried. Which is more healthy, not calling it fried or the fact that no matter what you don’t call it, it’s still fried!?
In French Canada it’s PFK.
Poulet frites Kentucky
When I was in high school my friends and I just called it bucket in the sky.
I used to love it. But in recent years it just doesn’t taste the same. I think it’s lower quality chicken, and probably different oil, and god only knows what other modern shortcuts.
Quitting the sugar drinks was a great move for me too.
I go with Popeye’s because their chicken is better and the rest of their menu is awesome (especially the red beans and rice and the popcorn shrimp. But KFC makes good, tender chicken too.
It was to get rid of “fried”. But that was also an era when the hip hop community started using initials for everything. I remember for a while McDonalds started calling the Quarter Pounder with cheese a “QPC”.
They serve fried kangaroos at IHOPS in Australia.
This reminds me how they change the names of sugary cereals to omit the word sugar.
For example Corn Pops used to be called Sugar Pops.
Frosted Flakes used to be called sugar Frosted Flakes.
Honey smacks used to be called Sugar Smacks.
I have not read the labels, but I would bet that the sugar content of the cereals stayed the same . They simply change the name to de-emphasize the fact that there was so much sugar in them.
Just from reading this article and seeing a few photos, I now want to run out and buy some Kentucky Fried Chicken!
When I haven’t had a certain snack food in a few months or weeks, it doesn’t take much to flip the switch of temptation.
I’ll just have to take care of some very important business tomorrow afternoon. That’s all there is to it!
“it just doesn’t taste the same.”
They had the same problem with tuna when they took the dolphin out.
The problem isnt with fat in general, which is needed for good health. Its with the garbage fats the fast food restaurants use. They re-use cheap vegetable oil at very high temperatures. This creates a lot of oxidation/free radicals in the body once you eat it. Excess oxidation damages the bodys cells, including the inner lining of arteries. The body uses cholesterol to patch these damaged spots, and eventually there are so many patches the arteries get clogged (this is the very simplified explanation of course ). High cholesterol is often a sign of a lot of oxidative stress, and fast food causes oxidative stress. Thats not even mentioning what all that high Omega-6 vegetable oil does to your Omega-3 ratios.
Thanks.
You know I never heard about A1C until I started seeing a commercial on tv for getting it under control. I can’t remember what drug they were pushing, but it caught my interest because my youngest brother was born with diabetes. I think they called it juvenile diabetes in those days, not sure that term is even used any more.
My brother died relatively young of kidney failure. He went blind in his early 20’s...completely blind....couldn’t even distinguish light from dark.
He always seemed careful about monitoring his blood sugar, but he would stray and occasionally eat high sugar foods. He would adjust his insulin accordingly.
I don’t know where you’re at health wise, but I certainly hope you are well. Whatever problems you have, I hope you’re able to get them under control soon.
I heard that KFC has grilled chicken. Is it any good? I think my favorite thing about eating KFC (original recipe) is that delicious coating. Not sure I’d find anything about their grilled chicken particularly pleasing.
On average, I get KFC about once every 5 years. I always consider having it on my birthday. It’s a real treat for me.
