It’s become very popular again. Technics is gearing up the TT production. I was at a flea market CD’s are dirt cheap, while next to me the lp boxes were being thoroughly seaerched through.
I also read where cassettes are also in vogue. I guess 8 tracks are next?

Vinyl started becoming popular again at least 10 years ago. There have always been those who say vinyl is and always will been superior to CDs in sound quality.

There may be some truth to that. There are some fantastic digitally remastered recordings on CD, but there is also is a lot of crap. Anything Motown, Simon and Garfunkel (because original master tapes vanished before they could be properly digitized) and, I’m sure, many others.

I gave up on vinyl after I destroyed my small (but treasured) record collection by playing them with a damaged stylus. I have several hundred CDs so I see no reason to use anything else. Never downloaded a tune and the only “streaming” I’ve done is via Youtube (if that even counts, I don’t know).

I think vinyl became relatively popular again because it requires a process to enjoy it, so the focus is more on listening to a full album. Most music today is consumed while something else is going on as well, walking, driving, cleaning, internet surfing whatever. Usually with earbuds or on crappy computer speakers. It’s almost a secondary after thought and available at the touch of a button. With vinyl and its requirements it’s maybe easier to focus on the music actively because of the time spent just to hear it.

I think it’s a good thing, certainly more bands are mixing with vinyl in mind which makes their CDs sound better, at least to me.

Lots of people. Vinyl is very popular now. The MP3 and stream revolution has caused a lot of folks to value tactile music.
