Watching the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, this song came to mind. On youtube I searched for it and this was at the top of the list.

Does anyone know about this group? I don't know what to make of it. Any ideas from y'all?

The group is Steely Dan, one of the biggest bands of the '70s.

Some turnout, a hundred grand

Get with it we'll shake his hand

Don't bother to understand

Don't question the little man

Be part of the brotherhood

Yes it's chain lightning

It feels so good

Hush brother, we cross the square

Act natural like you don't care

Turn slowly and comb your hair

Don't trouble the midnight air

We're standing just where he stood

It was chain lightning

It feels so good

The song is supposedly about a couple of Nazis. In the first verse they are at a rally. The "little man" is Hitler.

In the second verse they return after the war to the scene of the rally. Interesting song especially as Donald Fagan was Jewish.

I have a friend that knows Larry Carlton well and he played on several of Steely Dan’s recordings. He’s known as Mr. 335.

Are you asking about the whatever-it-is Camera Players group? Because I can’t believe that you never heard of Steely Dan.

Great stuff! If there were a better band in the 1970’s I never heard them. Opinions and all that though....

“Does anyone know about this group?“

Um, yea. Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. Incredible talents. Incredible music.

I miss those days.

Steely Dan was pretty much incapable of putting out a bad song. Phenomenal musicians.

I recommend that you check out their catalog ASAP.

They are one of those bands that get better with every listen.

As a bonus (after you have fully absorbed Steely Dan), explore "The Nightfly" by Donald Fagen.

It’s hard to pick a favorite band. Everyone has their own opinion.

Truly, the 70s had some amazing music, musicians and bands, but I can’t think of any who were better than Steely Dan.

Plus, as a kid in junior high school in a world before algore invented the internet, I had fun trying to figure out what a steely dan was... no explaining that one to my parents... lol...

I’m reminded of RUSH’s song “Countdown” about the space shuttle. Above is the song dubbed onto various cool images of the shuttle and operations. The song includes actual transmissions between the shuttle and Houston.

Mingles with the bright stuff of dreams”

saw them twice in recent years

2014 in Madison, WI when Becker was still playing...in fact, he sang some lead lyrics

saw “half the dan” last summer in St Paul, MN. Good show, but Fagens voice is weakening noticeably. Beckers absence is noticeable, IMHO

Still one of my favorite bands. Top 5
