NYPD Vehicle Hits Citi Bike After Allegedly Reckless Cyclist Refuses To Stop In East Village
CBS NY ^ | 6 July 2019

Posted on 07/12/2019 8:45:32 PM PDT by DUMBGRUNT

With the bike tangled under the back tire of an NYPD SUV, the police officer was recorded explaining why he pulled over a cyclist, who allegedly ran through several red lights and refused orders to stop.

“You’re riding recklessly and you’re refusing to stop after multiple orders when you looked and acknowledged,” the Manhattan officer said.

“So I am going to use what means is necessary to stop you… that’s for your safety… this is for your safety, yes.”

So we had to run him over and kill him, to keep him safe!

Too bad, so sad.

NYC bicyclists riding like this have actually hit and killed pedestrians, and then defiantly dared the cops to do something about it after the lefty city let the all-holy Gaia saving bicyclists go with a slap on the wrist at worst. Then bragged about what they did on social media.

Now if the officer had an ourangatan like Clyde a simple “right turn Cylde” would have prevented this wreck. Stop means Stop.

Seeing as he was Super Cop and knew exactly how to do a PIT maneuver on a cyclist without any additional damage!

He simply should have shot out the front tire of the bicycle.

No problemo!

We’ve had pedestrians hurt and killed in San Francisco as well.

Not to mention that someone flying through red lights
Is very likely to cause traffic accidents

I’m glad the cop cornered him as the article lines out. He had every right.

Some may say the officer’s remedy was worse than the problem, but no. I’m glad he found some way to stop this particular biker. Most cyclists in my are just fine, but a small number are capable of extraordinary arrogance and inconsideration.
They use the public roads to act out personal dramas against any authority figure. “I don’t need to listen to you or your rules. So bug off!!” is the attitude of this small number.

The cyclist wasn’t killed.

That was a takeoff on the immortal words of some anonymous Grunt, “We had to destroy the village, to save it”.

Compare to the actual quote from the article, “So I am going to use what means is necessary to stop you… that’s for your safety… this is for your safety, yes.”

Some might say, reductio ad absurdum?
Maybe/maybe not.

Having a second ‘alive day’ 6 June 2012 from an evil automobile that ran me over.(Wearing bright orange spandex and a helmet)

Twenty days hospital... more repair work... months of therapy and still worse my just built from the frame up bike did not survive!

I may be overly sensitive about this issue?

Congratulations on your recovery! What you described is devastating, life changing even. Good traffic requires both sides to remain observant and considerate.
Too many drivers on their phones.

It takes a lot of work to recover physically, as you know far more deeply than I do. You are FULLY entitled to your opinion on this. I suppose you had to find some way to deal with the anger at that careless driver. Everyone has their own way to live with it. God’s Blessings to you, and good luck.

When I was a kid if I recklessly rode my bike in traffic, getting in trouble with the police would’ve been the LEAST of my worries. I would’ve had to deal with my parents.

Shooting a firearm in a public setting is dangerous to by standers, so is running red lights. Riding ignoring traffic laws on anything is not a good idea. Ride safe and stay safe. Even at that it’s no guarantee.

I suppose you had to find some way to deal with the anger at that careless driver.

I never thought about that aspect?
I have NO RECOLLECTION of the event.
But I do have FALSE MEMORIES???
I was ‘asleep’ for the first ten days -two weeks.
I had to ask my wife what happened, she had to bring the accident report because I did not believe it!

Many accidents at the same location. Shortly after my accident, a woman was KIA everything the same.
They have since built a bicycle bridge at Busse Woods Elk Grove Il over Higgins Rd at Frontage.

I was angry at my homeowner’s insurance!
They only paid half of the $750 ambulance ride and nothing for the $pandx cut off my carcass or my $$$ bike.
My gold plated medical paid about half a million, no problem.

I still have doubts about it being my fault, too late now!

Sometimes, the memory protects a person by allowing them to forget or never fully register certain events. Hospitals have some kind of gas for that, I’m pretty sure.
I’ve had some surgeries. I’m glad I don’t remember those at all.

So we had to run him over and kill him, to keep him safe!

Even though that cyclist wasn't killed the officer was just following the example of Janet Reno, who had 76 people killed in order to save the children, who were among the 76. Not only that, she saved Elian Gonzalez from a life of freedom by returning him to the tropical paradise of Cuba. He just wasn't as efficient as she was. That's why she was Attorney General and he's just a cop.
