Courageous dog chases bear from New Jersey backyard in wild video

A New Jersey dog has been promised a steak after the fearless pup chased an intruding black bear from a neighbor’s backyard this week.

Mark Stinziano, of West Milford, caught the encounter on a home security camera Tuesday night when the bear decided to raid the bird feeder set up behind his house.

The bear pulls down the feeder and is enjoying the snack when the neighbor’s dog, Riley, dashes into the yard, the video shows.

Riley crashes into the startled bear, which scrambles to escape.

Black bears are attracted to odors from potential food sources, including garbage, pet food, birdseed and small livestock, according to the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.

Bears will learn to associate people with food even if they are fed unintentionally through garbage or food items left outside.

Lol! Wow! That’s great!

Thanks for sharing it.

BTW, what was that thing that flew towards the bear prior to the cat coming out, a bat?

Our mother cat chased away a young black bear a few days ago.

I own a restaurant and have 3 sons who can pound some food. I also live in the forest so, I also own the most popular bear buffet garbage can restaurant in town.

I complained to animal control, they told me to keep my garbage inside. I replied “so, we’re treating them like Muslims? We don’t want to offend and tempt the bears?

I choose Dogs and Roman Candles. I need to start videoing.

Give the folks at Wyoming Game & Fish a call. Many places in WY mandate bear resistant trash containers. WGF might be able to advise you on what and how to get.

That the Bear still seems to be afraid in this circumstance is a good thing for the Bear. Once Bears no longer fear humans, they become really dangerous.

Our cat had a couple of bear cubs up a tree right by our house. I didn’t see how it happened. The mother sat at the base of the tree and there was a staring match between the cat and the bear that went on quite a while. We couldn’t get the cat to come in so the cubs would come down and the family could leave. I think the cat was having too much fun.

Lol! With the many wacky things we see animals doing, especially now in the internet age, where so many have recorded and shared stuff, it’s no wonder that they were the primary subject of the classic Loony Tunes/Warner Bros cartoons! (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, etc, etc)

Of course they didn’t have internet back then, yet still, the creators were clearly well acquainted with the often funny interactions between animals.

I made my own. My bear buffet is so popular they rip them apart. We request new cans damn near every quarter.
We’re working on motion detector deterrents. The bears are starting to not fear the dog, and since they are protected by law, I can’t treat them like most trespassers.

That doesn’t look like a dog attack at all. Labs are retarded and that looks more like how large breeds play together more than anything else.

Seriously? The way the dog aggressively rushed at the bear was not at all like he wanted to play with it.

Seriously, yes it was. That looks like my old newf welcoming me home or my St Bernards playing tag. Truly serious agression doesnt include the spinning butt scoot maneuver. He either wanted to play or it was a mild territory warning at best.
