SPRINGFIELD — Country rock band Confederate Railroad has been barred from performing at an Illinois state fair because of its use of the Confederate flag, setting off a firestorm by southern Illinois fans who believe they’re under Chicago liberals’ thumb of political correctness.

The band was scheduled to appear Aug. 27 at the DuQuoin State Fair , but Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s administration canceled the appearance last week.

“This administration’s guiding principle is that the state of Illinois will not use state resources to promote symbols of racism,” Pritzker spokeswoman Emily Bittner said. “Symbols of hate cannot and will not represent the values of the Land of Lincoln.”

Agreed. But over the years great efforts at reconciliation were made.

From Wikipedia:

The SUVCW has a longstanding friendly relationship with the Sons of Confederate Veterans, referring to them as "our Confederate cousins,"[8] and has conducted a number of joint meetings and joint resolutions with the SCV.[9][10] The Commander-in-Chief of the SUVCW has attended the SCV annual reunion on a number of occasions, including in 1995, 1996, 1997, and 2005.[11][12][13] The SUVCW cooperates with the SCV in preserving Civil War monuments, graves, and markers, and also, in a formal resolution passed in August 2000, opposed "the removal of any Confederate monuments or markers to those gallant soldiers in the former Confederate States."[14] In 2017, the National Encampment (held once again in Lansing, MI) approved a revised policy toward the Confederate Battle Flag that "strongly condemn[ed] the use of any American or Confederate flag by any and all hate groups." The resolution also pointedly supported the flying of all U.S. and C.S.A. flags to "National Battlefield sites and to be honored publicly in museums as our authentic archival documentation of our National past."
