In a press conference held before the celebratory ticker-tape parade for the U.S. women's national team kicked off in lower Manhattan, New York governor Andrew Cuomo took a stand for equal pay, signing the new "Equal Pay for Equal Work" legislation into law on the streets of New York City. “There is no rationale that the women should not get paid what the men get paid,” Cuomo said, per assembled media. “...We say to the U.S. Soccer league and we say to FIFA, if you don’t pay women what you pay men, then you have no business in the state of New York.”

Does that apply to the Brooklyn Nets? 49% of the Brooklyn Nets is owned by Joseph Tsai. He also owns the WNBA NY Libery. Mr. Tsai's Nets signed the two Kevin's for around $40 MM each a year. So should the best players on his Liberty team also earn $40 MM a year? His WNBA players are doing "the same work".

Ok, pay them the same percentages against their market revenues.

I’m a musician. It’s not fair that I only get paid a little for playing a club with 100 people in attendance while Lady Gaga gets tens of thousands for playing an arena.

I want my equal pay for equal work!

No, I DEMAND it!

The 4 highest paid employees of US Soccer are women’s soccer players. Washington Post had a story about this today.

Seems that work is quantifiable.

Strap a few tires to the back of a WNBA player and an NBA player and have them drag them 50 feet and measure the Work.

You are right. To the extent an employer can pay employees on a purely commission basis with no draw, this legislation provides ample incentive to do so. The key is how they are going to define “equal work”. Is is going to be limited to the exact same job.

The win here will be to find a sport in which the female athletes are paid more than male athletes, then force NY to subsidize the male team.

Volleyball? Hmm...

This guy is stupid. Where is he getting the money to pay these women? Equal pay legislation may translate in lower salaries for all. Higher ticket prices? Who would be crazy enough to pay them.

So NY was/is exempt from The Equal Pay Act of 1963?

Equal Pay for equal work is a Marxist thing.

U.S. Soccer in principle should not have to equalize actual dollars as long as it provided an equal formula based on revenues and team performance. But that ship may have sailed. The salary talks have been stuck for years. Things like paying the women a lower bonus for winning an international friendly, despite the fact that the women have higher attendance and tv viewship, are facially unfair and have locked U.S. Soccer in a losing situation. USS could and should have headed off a lot of this trouble by being a little proactive years ago.

So lower the men’s contracts to the same numbers as the women’s? They’re both going to be men soon anyway. Gendered and transgendered.

Do you have a vagina? Do you at least claim to want a vagina? Were your distant ancestors slaves? Did they have vaginas?

No? I'm sorry, we can't help. But nonetheless, please feel free to vote Democrat in November!

A Marxist thing?

There remains the principle of ‘equal pay for equal work’ – a right that Marx explicitly calls ‘bourgeois’.

"Equal Pay for Equal Work" legislation

what does this even mean? It sounds like a slogan that doesn't mean crappola in the real world. Does he think that a girl soccer player and a boy soccer player are equal?

All of this is pure BS typical anti-Trump garbage. The only thing that will come out of all of this in the long run is that US Women’s Soccer loses respect. It’s also going to kill women’s sports in general.
