My sister-in-law is a physician/surgeon. She has systematically removed "M.D." and "Dr." from all her shopping and financial related materials. Further, she won't disclose her profession, especially when purchasing large-ticket items, or where procuring domestic services are concerned. The reason? Doctors get shamelessly "soaked" in these transactions, vs us "normal" folks. The reason: Well, because they are rich and can afford to be fleeced.

That ain't right, you might say. No kidding, Sherlock. But it's a fact of life. Is poor-on-rich discrimination any worse than black-on-white discrimination? Open for discussion.

I’ve come to realize that car salesmen, while making small talk, ask “what kind of work do you?” in order to gauge your income level.
I refused to tell a salesman what I did and he got a bit agitated asking me “are you a spy”?
