I know just where you mean, I’ve camped in Busse Woods. Sadly a death is often the only motivation that works. We have a trail crossing over a not-as-busy 4 lane and they told us “wait til someone builds out there and maybe they’ll put in a traffic signal”. IOW, commerce is a more persuasive argument than safety.
Err, it was Bliss Woods I was thinking of, which is out by Rt. 47. The trail there is the Virgil Gilman Nature trail and it’s a rail trail that runs 11.4 miles in Kane and Kendall County. Probably prettier and safer - it’s got bridges and all. Maybe the new Gov. will spend some of his new pot and jacked-up gas tax money so we can have nice things downstate too ;-)
