If you haven’t seen it yet. Das Boot has some interesting shots of all the food they had on board and how they stored it. A friends son was for a few years on a nuclear sub several years ago. Under the floor was solid food.

What a cool topic. Thanks. I have always wanted to try creamed chipped beef on toast. I worked with a woman who made the most delicious dip/spread with dried beef, cream cheese & green onions. So deli3.

I have a little cookbook with Navy recipes in it. I made a few of them when I was a young mom, and they were very good.

This was a go-to recipe on our boat when we had company for dinner:
Shrimp Nimbus
2# large peeled and deveined shrimp
2 sticks unsalted butter
1 large green bell pepper - chopped
1 large or 2 medium white onion - chopped
3 cloves garlic - minced
2 cans cream of celery soup
1 - 8 oz. can tomato sauce
1 tblsp. lime juice
1 tblsp. Worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper
In large pot, melt butter then saute onion, peppers and garlic until translucent. Add remaining ingredients (except shrimp) and simmer for 20 minutes. Stir in shrimp and simmer for another 5-10 minutes until shrimp are just done. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve over cooked rice or pasta.
