Boy what a difference there is across cultures.

Muslim and Latin men will not take instruction from a woman. Muslim women treat you like a “dimmi”.

Asian men and women, on the other hand, work their backsides off and will take instructions from anyone who knows their stuff.

I taught GED here in MO many years ago. The big difference in my classes were those ordered to go by a judge and those who wanted that GED to get ahead. The court-ordered students often slept through a class, while the ones who were there on their own initiative, actively asked for help with things they didn’t understand. There is nothing quite like teaching a motivated student.

When my daughter was a undergraduate biology major, she tutored mainly Chinese high school kids in biology. She said that most of her students didn’t need the tutoring, but the Asian moms & dads (mainly the moms) insisted that the kids get the tutoring during the summer months. They were simply not going to into the next grade having forgotten anything they learned. They inculcate a strong work ethic fro the youngest ages.

That has been my experience with the Chinese people I've known. Very hard-working, very family oriented, place a great value on knowledge and education.
