This is why I very much want them to impeach. It is the only way the President’s attorneys could subpoena witnesses. Imagine the questions that would be asked under oath -
Did you or the Obama administration spy on and unmask political opponents? If so, who authorized such spying? These are questions that we are all hoping the AG will find answers for, but to see the answers during the spectacle of an impeachment trial in the senate would be something even CNN could not ignore or spin.
Don't bet on it! Why do you think the media gets away with defamation of politicians in general? The First Amendment protects freedom of speech and of the press, any action based on the content of statements must satisfy narrowly defined requirements, and politicians, as public figures, must also meet significantly higher burdens of proof than an ordinary person. The op-ed argument is that the content is "opinion" aka spin - and facts be damned.
It seems that when it comes to politicians, media can slander and libel with impunity. I wouldn't expect that to change with a Senate trial that exposes democrat liars, seditionists and traitors.
The only thing that will change CNN, MSNBC, Google, YouTube etc., etc. is: conservative, pro-American ownership - or new law that makes the media more accountable for its slander and libel of politicians - or SC decision that makes the media more accountable for its slander and libel of politicians.
