I got the impression he just ran through a swarm and they stuck to his sweaty skin. Repellant wouldn’t have been effective in this case.

Yes, we have annoying swarms of gnats at a local trail at times; there’s no way around them, you just have to try not to inhale or breathe with your mouth open for a few seconds.

Buggins is great and it does smell nice.

In a pinch, vanilla extract works on dogs and people. I think it’s one of the ingredients of Buggins.

It’s pretty cool to inhale the gnats while running and have them all stuck up in your sinuses. They come out in pieces later on with blowing the nose and coughing.

If you don’t want the gnats all stuck up in your sinuses, by the way, you can wear a cheap mosquito head net (available from Amazon and other sites). ;-)
