No arrests reported for any unruly Blues fans in St. Louis after Stanley Cup win
FOX2NOW ST LOUIS ^ | 06/13/2019 | JOE LAMIE

Police say there were no arrest reports filed last night for any unruly behavior from Blues fans. They report the celebration in downtown St. Louis was joyous and without incident.

Fans filled the Enterprise Center, Busch Stadium, and Ballpark Village for watch parties involving tens of thousands of people.

Last year, when the Washington Capitals won their first Stanley Cup, Washington D.C. was relieved as the fans’ celebration resulted in only one arrest.

In 2017, the Pittsburgh Penguins won the Cup and police in that city reportedly made no arrests due to unruly behavior or property damage. In 2016 Pittsburgh also won the Cup and reported only one arrest.

One needs to go back to 2015 to find any egregious behavior by a city’s hockey fans. When the Chicago Blackhawks won the Cup in 2015, 25 arrests were reported in Chicago. Our friends at The Chicago-Tribune reported the 25 arrests, with five police officers injured, six squad cars damaged, and a host of minor scuffles. Four arrests were felonies, the rest were misdemeanors. In Wrigleyville, police reported the evening devolved into Blackhawks fans fighting each other in the streets. They also noted some fans climbed light poles and hurled bottles at police cars.

You mean hockey fans aren’t known for running around after a big victory, wildly discharging firearms into the air? I am shocked!

In hockey it’s the players who get into brawls. In the NBA it’s the fans who batter, brawl, and burn. Still though, St. Louis is still St. Louis, especially with East St. Louis (Gary, IN on the Mississippi) just across the river.

Hockey is still overwhelmingly a white sport.

The celebrations will get much more “vibrant” once it is enriched with diversity.

I remember when the Islanders won the cup in 1980 the fans took the glass down and stormed the ice. Was actually pretty funny and the players didn’t seem to mind. Pro hockey was a little different back then.

Dude, please.

Good for these fans for not acting like idiots, but acting like the only minority fans of teams engage in that behavior is silly.

College football and european soccer alone shows that the ability to handle yourself after a big match isnt something that whites just “dont do”.

I’ve lived in STL my entire life and seen lots of Cardinal championships and a Super Bowl winner (Stank Roenke can rot in hell for moving the Rams).

I can’t remember any felonious behavior at any of the celebrations.

STL gets a bad rap on crime. Stay away from about 5 square miles in north St. Louis and it is extremely safe and very friendly....a great place to raise a family.

FWIW, East St. Louis (of Vacation fame) is in Illinois.

Yes, and I do remember the fun that took place in both ‘94 (when they lost to the Rangers) and in ‘11 (when Vancouver lost to Boston).

When the University of Minnesota (my alma mater) won back to back national championships in hockey (’02 and ‘03), a large number of students gathered and torched dumpsters, tipped over cars, broke windows and even threw stuff at the police.

The police, of course, weren’t amused and responded with tear gas and also shot pepper ball pellets at them.
