Corona police say 32-year-old Kenneth French from Riverside allegedly assaulted the unidentified officer inside the store on Friday night. Frenchs mother, Paula, and father, Russell, were also shot and critically wounded.
Both remained in critical condition at Riverside Community Hospital on Sunday but Frenchs cousin Rick Shureih told CBS2/KCAL9s Greg Mills his uncle was doing better (he had a breathing tube removed) but his aunt is still not out of the woods.
He said Kenneth had mental issues but nothing that ever made him violent. He told Mills that Kenneth was a big guy and because of his issues he had a blank look on his face.

Happy Father’s Day!
That’s always a possibility. It’s also possible when the cop pulled his weapon the decedent thought he had to stop the bad guy with the gun and went for the cops gun. At that point all bets are off.
I’m not guessing.
There are too many variables.
When we see the video we will know, and if the video is never seen then we will also know.
Yup.
I frankly will be shocked if some malfunction or loss of the video does not occur.
Possibly. And the most likely reason they were in the line of fire was they were trying to pull their son away. But it's all speculation at this point.
“Initial reports had French having a Mohawk haircut.”
My understanding was that witnesses described “a man” with a mohawk, but was not specifically IDed as French.
Maybe the cop had a military style haircut that was mistaken for a mohawk?
I wonder whether the deceased was a taxi driver?
Yep. Any guesses?
or adding a little new technology digital enhancement
“White guy with a Mohawk” becomes crazy yuge Mexican..?
Wow.
Unlike some here I will wait for some actual facts to appear, hopefully in the form of a Costco video.
Eh?
Like Las Vagas?
Why speculate and why accuse before the facts are out, unless you were there?
“Still, it’s hard to imagine a situation that required shooting the whole family.”
Hard to imagine? I don’t know about that. I don’t know what happened here, but I can imagine a situation. You’re holding your young child when someone does something that makes you think it’s necessary to shoot them so you do. Then two people run up to you, still holding your young child, screaming “You shot my son, you blankety-blank, I’m going to kill you.” (What would you do if you were the parents in this situation?) Again, you’re still holding your young child, you believe you are both threatened, you’re maybe in a little bit of shock from the first shooting, and you’ve had no time to stop and think because this all took place in seconds. What would you do? How much risk would you put your young child in?
Like I said, I don’t know what really happened here, but I can imagine a situation where someone might at least think shooting the whole family was required.
I spent 25 years in big city Emergency Medicine. I've encountered more paranoid schizophrenics than you've had hot dinners.I know how such individuals are inclined to act when they feel threatened.
Not having been there I can only imagine various scenarios to explain what happened...that imagining based,to a degree,on long experience.
That's why I said "possible".
Here we have just have an early story with nothing in the way of facts.
I've seen 4 or 5 pics of the man. In all, he had short hair, was clean shaven and had a neat appearance. It's possible he recently changed his appearance, but not many people change from clean cut to punk rocker at 32.
I noticed some witnesses described the "man with a mohawk arguing with a woman with a child", though the officer is described as a man. Family described French as "non-verbal" and it's hard to argue when you don't speak. It's possible French was not the "man with a mohawk".
Also, it's hard to imagine releasing a person involved in a shooting before at least reviewing the video, assuming at least one of the many, many cameras in the Costco captured to event. The only exception would be if the shooter is LEO.
