1st time ever! Great hockey by St. Louis.
Now that’s some serious spittin’ chiclets.
Question is,
Will the good fans of the Saint Louis Blues wreak havoc on the city, raise hell and cause mahem?
Or celebrate in style?
We’ll see
Classey or not so much?..
Dittos to what you said, Geronimo. This one hurts big time, as I believe the Bruins could have won it all, but there's no doubt the Blues deserved to win the Cup.
I'm happy for the long-suffering Blues fans, especially for St. Louis Blues superfan Laila Anderson. Good for her... she got to kiss the Stanley Cup!
Blues' goalie Jordan Binnington was awesome tonight... just incredible. I have a photo of Binnington on my iPhone from 2015 or so, playing in Springfield, MA as goalie for the Providence Bruins. Ya just never know...
Hockey fans... they’ll probably be classy and celebrate in style.
After the remarks earlier in the season from the owner, I think he was sandbagging it so he could be traded back up north. From what I hear, all Canadians want to play for a team up there before they call it quits.
Chara signed a one-year contract with the Bruins for next season. But I really hope he retires and maybe becomes a coach for the Bruins. He's definitely gotten too slow for this young man's game...
Id bet they take it in stride. Cardinals been winners in the World Series a number of times. To win isnt new just the Blues doing it is. Right now the Cardinals need some help. The Blue and Cards support each other pretty good. Itll be interesting to see the Blues players at the Cardinals games. Regional teams should do this more. Red Sox/ Bruins, Cubs/Blackhawks, etc. if nothing else it charges the fan base. IMO
“Sharks next year?”
Yuck, I hope not.
Wow, a name from my youth as a blues fan. Gary Unger was my favorite blues player.
And Dan Kelly. Best hockey announcer ever.
That was a magnificent game! I wasnt expecting the Blues to win, just hoping really hard. Congrats to St Louis!
The amazing thing about hockey is theres not only no home-field advantage it seems to be the opposite
I’m taking the over on cars burned and people shot.
Yah, they won the popular vote that year too. ;-)
Those people are animals.
I live here in St. Louis and follow the Blues. So it was very exciting tonight! The town is crazy for the Blues! I heard fireworks in my neighborhood tonight.
“... the Flyers to acquire Dave Schultz, Don Saleski, and Bob Kelly.”
And Freddie “the Fog” Shero turned all of them into 20 a year goal scorers.
Pretty amazing.
Congratulations to the St. Louis Blues.
“The Blues beat up the Flyers pretty badly in two playoff games in the 1960s and that launched the Flyers to acquire Dave Schultz, Don Saleski, and Bob Kelly.”
That is absolutely true. I first got interested in hockey because in my freshman year of HS, I sat at a lunch table with a young man who was the first “stick boy” for the Flyers. He didn’t get paid, but he got into all the home games for free. Later, in college, I used to hang out at Rexy’s. Rough crowd. But I was also a bit rough around the edges in those days as well. :^)
There’s also more parity in the NHL today, so a scenario where a team goes from last place on January 1st to Stanley Cup champions isn’t totally outlandish anymore.
When the whistle blows and the clock stops, the home team has the advantage of changing their players last for the faceoff. Watch a faceoff closely, and you'll see the referee or linesman raise his hand. This means the visiting team has put their players on the ice and can no longer change them, while the home team's coach has the option of seeing who the opposing team has put on the ice and changing his players accordingly.
This gives the home team the ability to match up their best defensive players against the visiting team's best offensive players, etc.
