Thailand's players were in tears at the full-time whistle after suffering the heaviest defeat in World Cup history at the hands of the US.
There were those on social media who criticized the defending champions for celebrating each goal, but Alex Morgan -- who became only the second American to score five in a World Cup match -- told reporters that "every goal counts."
With the US 3-0 up by halftime, the match was effectively over. With the title holders then proceeding to score four goals in the space of six minutes early after the break, it was a rout by the 56th minute.
But Ellis proceeded to make attacking substitutions, bringing on forwards Mallory Pugh, Carli Lloyd and Christen Press, decisions she defended after the match.
The Thai team is supported by a wealthy patron, the general manager Nualphan Lamsam, who is the chief executive of one of the country's largest insurance companies.
Her family's company sponsors Thailand's fledgling women's league, and players on the national team are also employed by her company.

“Because the US Men suck.”
Yes, yes, they do.
I feel as if Im being force fed womens soccer. Its on front pages and the lesson tv sports news. Yet I know no one who follows the sport or has any interest. And I dont even live in the rural south
I do follow men’s soccer, but I find my interest in Women’s soccer somewhat wanting.
If you call America-hating dykes “women,” then technically, yes.
Well said.
I’m not referring to the number of goals. Just the taunting and inability to act decent and civilized.
Cant argue with he US Men suck. (I am sure there is a naughty pun here somewhere but being a 20 year member not interested I getting banned). That being said, I think the best thing is to celebrate this victory. If we had a national tiddlywinks team from America we should seek to dominate the game. We are the light on the hill and I think we should take nationalistic pride in destroying any competition. Let them quake at our name. The fact that it induces cognitive disharmony in the SJW is awesome. No athlete can resist the adulation of the crowd — let them struggle with the notion that us MAGAites are proud they took it to the competition
I agree that you have to run up the score given the tie breaker.
I dont think, however, that you have to be classless about it. They were classless and will only make their eventual defeat that much more of a comeuppance.
Oh and if they dont like the flag or anthem of the country that they are playing for, then why should I support them?
I agree. However, that's a different discussion.
Thank you for your service. I am a vet as well.
its hugh
You at least understand why they did what they did. It's obvious few people do.
Yes it sucks to get drubbing like that, but the differential in later play does not award "sportsmanship points"
Now the U-20 team did ok.
So my idea is, take the U-20 team players and coaches, add Pulisic, and that’s your team for the next World Cup, get them playing together now, so they are ready for WCQ.
I have no clue what Berhalter is trying to do. I can say it’s clear already that he is not up to the task.
Oh my. The girl from Ipanema hasn’t aged very well.
bttt
IMO, the concept of sportsmanship is lost. What they did was painful to watch. For those that are the “score as much as you can and not give a damn”, I would just say that we all have our standards. Mine are traditional to the point that you do not embarrass an opponent if you can help it. As for the coach and staff, there is a way to hit the brakes, and not only did they not do that, they also celebrated like they just won the cup. So, in truth, the USWNT lost many supporters last night. I am one.
I did change the discussion. Wanted to include that everyone in the room watching were commenting on the lack of sportsmanship. You couple that with disrespect of the flag at any time but overseas while representing the US
Disgraceful
