Chinese warships collect baby formula in Australia
Chinese warships that docked unexpectedly at an Australian port departed with a cargo of baby formula, local media discovered.
The arrival of a trio of Chinese ships, including an amphibious assault vessel, set off alarm bells on Monday morning among Australian citizens who did not have advance notice of the visit and analysts who regarded it as a show of force. But the trip also highlighted Chinas vulnerabilities, as Chinese sailors were photographed loading baby formula onto the ships before they departed.
What some Chinese colleagues were saying about realistic socialism as true state of affairs in their country, and best epitomized here: advanced warships that project the States might while sailors cope with tainted food products back home, Collin Koh, a research fellow at the Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies in Singapore, commented in a Friday night tweet.

What happened was that the sailors from the three ships loaded the ships with baby formula and then the ships departed.
Make of it what you will.
Interesting. Thanks
I would be interested to know what the sailors make of it.
What do the captains of those ships make of it?
I can only guess that some high ranking members of government want only the best for their infants and are willing to embarrass their navy to get it.
I don’t think the Chinese would be concerned by any of this. They play the long game. Any inconveniences or embarrassments along the way mean nothing to them.
I was thinking something similar. What must the sailors think of a Government which has to buy goods from a hated capitalist country for their own citizens.
Is this some kind of punishment?
How can these captains ever restore the morale of their crews?
Imagine when these ships pull in to port and the crew goes to the local watering hole for a beer. The crews of other ships will be relentless in their jibes.
Hey look! Its the crew of the SS Nursery.
LOL!!
So, the powerful in government decided that it was worth it to send navy ships to collect it for family types in government.
I find it hard to imagine that things are that bad in China. If they are I cant see Chinas government lasting much longer.
I hope that the next time Chinese ships are near U.S. ships that the skipper of a U.S. Warship hoists a Gerber Baby Food flag.
True. There could be a problem with tainted baby food and it is a disaster, or maybe this is just more corruption from the people at the top to make a killing on black market baby food.
It has been a thing here in Australia for quite a few years that a particular brand of baby formula has become prized by the growing Chinese middle class. So much so that many stores have limited the amount that can be bought per person so that people with infants can get hold of some. The company is attempting to increase production but atm cannot keep up with overseas demand
Im gonna make a knock-off version of that formula and sell it to the Chinese.
BS. Warships do not arrive "unexpectedly". They require diplomatic clearance, port clearance, port services and more. People that needed to know, knew, period. Also, "dozens of boxes" of formula isn't exactly "embarrassing for China". It's just two or three sailors buying a small supply of better quality formula for their babies. If you want to be a blog pimp, at least steal some legit content.
Could be that the Chinese product is poison and these sailors know it.
So, they did their shopping and left.
Wonder what they filmed/saw while they were there.
The Chinese wouldn’t have needed a warship to spy. They have a worldwide network of students, who’s fulltime job is spying in between classes.
If I had to guess what China is up to, it was probably testing Australia’s response system. Show up unexpectedly and go buy baby food and then sail away and see what Australia’s response would be. Pure provocation
Is Australia really going to shoot down a warship over baby food and create an international incident?
Parents in China do not trust local brands of baby formulae. There were tons of it tainted about 10 years ago that literally killed 1000’s of children.
In HK tourist are only allowed to take 2 cans of powdered formula back. Otherwise the mainlanders where buying out entire stores. They can sell it for 8 or 10 times the price if they have a receipt from HK.
Since the PLA pays really badly, the sailors were probably just taking it back to China to sell.
Particularly so, but not only for warships. Many countries require advance notice of arrival for merchant ships as well.
The captains are then permitting and facilitating their crew in being black marketeers and free market capitalist.

Well, only in their spare time.
