Many Italians from Southern Italy and Sicily are “people of color” because they have significant numbers of African DNA as a result of various ethnic groups who have occupied Southern Italy and Sicily throughout history. For example, my wife, whose family immigrated from Napoli, recently found out, that she is not 50% Irish and 50% Italian as she had been told; rather, she is about 43% Irish, 40% Italian, 10% North African, 5% Greek, and 2% French.
