Wendy’s has a commercial where a group of stereotypical Italian Americans crowd around an idealized white person and act crudely and threateningly towards him. They eat like slobs, eating spaghetti and meatballs, acting suspiciously of him, and generally make buffoons of themselves. They wear gold chains, have a darker complexion than the white man, and have very ethnic features such as black hair and big noses. Most obviously, the premise is that they are all mobsters and that the white man is there to defeat their evil. At the end of the commercial, two very non-Italian looking federal agents are shown.
This commercial was about a parmesan Caesar salad, by the way. The commercial took Italian food, culturally appropriated it, weaponized it, and attacked Italian Americans with it. The media is not covering this outrageous commercial. In fact, there is a civil rights group on Facebook that gets attacked, both by Italians and non-Italians, in very hateful language, just for pointing these kinds of issues out to the general public. Facebook, quick to ban right-wing haters, seems to be fine with the Italophobia...

And there’s few places where it never shines :)

...great post...!!my grandmother (Napolitano..!) and my grandfather (Romano..!) came to this country with nothing much more than the clothes on their backs... made great lives for themselves and their offsprings... interestingly, Latin has no “zero”.... and how they built magnificent aquaducts and viaducts, etc. with what they had (NO computers...!) still boggles the imagination....Viva chianti...!

I think it’s funny what other races or people of any ethnicity think of Italians.

Pssssssssssssssssssssst...the "Romans" were invaders, long, long, LONG before their grand Empire; they conquered the Sabines, displaced and wiped out the Etruscans, and Romulus & Remus never did "found" Rome!
Note how much of every nation's innovative, genius class went dark, during the the fall of both the East and West Roman Empire; if said nations even had any such people!
Still and all, belittling ancient and present day Italians is just plain old dumb; not to mention inaccurate and uneducated.
The "four horsemen of the Apocalypse" has taken its toll on most places, from time to time.
How about how all of the inventiveness and energy suddenly departed China, long, long, loooooooooooooooooooong ago, for example?

The people the author describes in the first paragraph are not Italians. They are Sicilians! Big difference.

Any lot of folks what can come up with pizza and lasagna and organized crime are fine with me.
Northern Italy is more like Germany, mostly blonde lighter-skinned folks.

As for the Roman Empire and Renaissance, yeah they happened in Italy.
