Wendy’s has a commercial where a group of stereotypical Italian Americans crowd around an idealized white person and act crudely and threateningly towards him. They eat like slobs, eating spaghetti and meatballs, acting suspiciously of him, and generally make buffoons of themselves. They wear gold chains, have a darker complexion than the white man, and have very ethnic features such as black hair and big noses. Most obviously, the premise is that they are all mobsters and that the white man is there to defeat their evil. At the end of the commercial, two very non-Italian looking federal agents are shown.
This commercial was about a parmesan Caesar salad, by the way. The commercial took Italian food, culturally appropriated it, weaponized it, and attacked Italian Americans with it. The media is not covering this outrageous commercial. In fact, there is a civil rights group on Facebook that gets attacked, both by Italians and non-Italians, in very hateful language, just for pointing these kinds of issues out to the general public. Facebook, quick to ban right-wing haters, seems to be fine with the Italophobia...

Nope, essentially everyone was honest and there was no PC crap limiting conversations and learning.
It wasn’t a slur. It was a word to describe someone. Just like WOP was. Just like “greaseball” or “Shanty Irish” or “black irish” or WASP or “medigan” or whatever.
People weren’t “triggered” or “offended” by something someone said unlike today when “hate” speech and “hate” crimes and all the hoaxes exist.
Yeah, I knew people who use Moolyham to pertain to blacks. So what? Is that another word we can’t say now? I’m sure it is, lol. What about Dago? Never bothered me. Or for the Irish “drunk” “harp” “green nigger” “hibe” “ MICK” etc.

About 15 years we couldn’t use “homosexual” anymore because they didn’t like that term and preferred “gay”. Apparently, “homosexual” is a derogatory term and “gay” is preferred. SMDH and Not giving AF.
Back in the 80s in south philly, if you were walking through a black neighborhood while white, you’d be assaulted. That didn’t happen in my white neighborhood with people of color. Imagine that.
I think you should reread the conversation (and my post) and try not to be so “triggered” yourself.

I was talking with a childhood friend of mine the other day (Irish ancestry) and discussing how badly the Irish were treated when they started immigrating here.
I never got the “torture the new kid” mentality.
My grandfather (came here from Italy at 16 y/o) changed his name to “something American”. That doesn’t happen anymore.
