“Adding more fast charging stations should provide a boost to sales of electric cars. “

No thanks...I prefer the sound of straight pipes on a Ford flathead to silence,

"It appears every EV manufacturer except Tesla is standardizing on the SAE J1772 CCS (Combined Charging System) plug. Just that means by 2025, doing fast charging at a commercial charging station could be almost as common as a gasoline station."

Outstanding Ray, Tesla could end up like Apple was with their hard-headedness where it was a niche product and never regained a the ability of being a work platform. Try to find a real CAD system that runs on an Apple, they stayed away.

GM is playing w/ a fast charge system, 10 minutes ='s 80% charge, and no one talks about the small splash it made here in MI car news, IMHO is is freaking big. That has battery longevity issues potentially associated with that rapid of a charge. But perhaps Solid State Batteries of which we are on the cusp of will have that covered.

This Revolution is going to happen and IMHO it happens in PDJT's 2nd term, and it is not investment advice, but there are those saying the changes in the markets "delta" will be more profound than the dot.com/PC boom of the Clinton Years.

FWIW, if the rumors are true of a Ford 4wd 4dr CUV that has Mustang DNA that is sched to be a 2020 model year vehicle it is something to consider. It will be the 1st EV that isn't a frumpy nerd box other than the Tesla which is what Jag should be. Lee Iococca had a choice between a gussied up Falcon w/ a long nose that was sporty with an American Drivetrain or a 4dr fwd replacement for the Cortina or some other Euro Car. He choose Fun over frumpy with the Mustang, and the rest is history. Will this thing they are going to build catch lightning again (no pun intended?

I'll have you google the images, I don't want to get in trouble with the mods, they are subject to CR....

"Yup. Just like the flying car."

It is now called VTOL MOD Vertical Takeoff and Landing Mobility on Demand.

150 serious players with R & D funding trying to be the Uber Jetson Mobile. We are pushing "3X" battery density, they need 10X, Design now wait for batteries to catch up. I am not pulling this out of my ear, message me privately as to how I know, it is public knowledge, but I am not willing to say when and where I found out about it.

500 windmills to support each charging station.

Imagine how many charging stations it takes given 4 hours to charge. How many gas pumps would we need if it took 4 hours to fill a gas tank?

Can the Grid handle all of the incremental juice flowing through the wires?

HJ, again GM is talking 80% in 10min w/ a charger they claim is near production ready, the innerwebs are saying the Ford CUV w/ Mustang DNA to be revealed for 2020 will have a 370 mile range ( US or Euro drive cycle? ). My point is, they are getting close to your criteria, the charging stations is the issue. BTW, If SanFranNan and Smuckey were not trying to screw our stable Genius, there is talk of a lot of money in the infrastructure plan to also make this happen. That is a lot of people being trained to do this IMHO a lotta blue collar jobs making some serious coin...

How long does it take to charge one vs how long does it take to fill up with fuel?”

That is an excellent question. My wife’s 15 year old but in great shape Lexus is our main vehicle.

I have a Ridgeline to haul stuff, pick up stuff and go to Home Depot for more new plants. So it gets filled up less often.

With the tank near empty, I can fill it up in less than 5 minutes

Just so, batteries and gas tanks are essentially containers of stored energy

....and to carry that point further, in the event an IC auto runs out of gas on a rural road, one can flag down a passing motorist or hike with an gas can to the nearest gas station or call for assistance. Can't do that with an EV auto. So far AAA doesn't have road assistance generators to recharge EVs... And if they did, charge time remains approximately the same...they can send out a flat bed tow truck...lost hours and money compared to gasoline.

Electric seems to work best in cities. My grandad told me they had UPS trucks in NYC that were battery run (that’s when he was like 8).
