I drive past it all the time.

I heard they were opening it last week, and will probably visit this weekend.

What I surmise is that it was “de-sanctified” in some way due to the renovations, so from now to the time of some kind of re-sanctifying ceremony it’s OK to let strangers in, but afterwards you will need to 1) be a Mormon, and 2) have a “Temple Recommend”, which more or less means you’d have to be in good standing as determined by some authority in the church. Not all Mormons get a Temple Recommend. The “Temple Recommend” thing as explained to me by a Mormon woman many years ago.
