I have a hypothetical that hasn’t come up. What if the schools knew about the shenanigans but turned a blind eye? For schools not as elite as they are, it would likely threaten their accreditation. I wonder because the schools aren’t expressing much outrage. Also because they’d have to recognize that they have kids with high SATs who can’t tie shoe laces and fencing (or whatever) athletes who never played the sport.
No doubt. You had coaches at multiple schools claiming that sons and daughters of the wealthy and celebrities were “athletes” who would be on their team rosters, despite the fact they had never participated in the sport.
Lots of folks involved in the administration and oversight of collegiate athletes, so there were probably a number of people on the take in athletic departments, and the same holds true on the admissions side for kids who got in with ACT/SAT tests taken by someone else. Felicity Huffman’s daughter posts a 400-point improvement in the SAT composite, and no one bats an eye. Not to mention testing officials who allowed “professional test takers” to sit for the college boards in place of the actual students.
And to think the senior officials were unaware of this is pure fantasy.
