EXTRA SPECIAL BONUS VIDEO CLIP -- MARTY CROSSING THE CARRICK-A-REDE ROPE BRIDGE
Poorly :(
WAY too much happening far too quickly in Season 8.
If you want to get a sense of how (in general) tweaked off the fan base is for how much this has all been rushed without enough time to develop the story better, go read the GOT Reddit - just be prepared to have hours to spare..there are more posts on the topic than anyone can possibly ever hope to read!
Also not loving the story arc on some of our favorite characters..it’s almost like the writers decided to throw 8 years of character development right out the window and go a whole new direction for some of them in a single or at most two episodes..
I’m preparing myself to be disappointed at how it ends tonight..I don’t think it’s going to be a happy ending or the ending any of us have expected, based on how things have gone this season..
My prediction:
Danarys tells the dragon to fry Tyrion and it doesn’t work, because he is a Targaryan!
Word is they wanted to end it now in order to start the new Star Wars.
Or, Bran warges into Drogon and roasts Dany
My opinion is the Weiss and Benioff are very quintessential Hollywood creatures. They are very skilled at promoting glam and spectacle, and expert at the technical aspects of producing such an epic. But they will resort to fairly typical cliches and narratives of modern Hollywood entertainment.
But IMHO, this is evident as the series has become a bit more one-dimensional and wooden after the series diverged from RR Martin’s books. They no longer had his twists and turns and singular, out-of-the-box thinking to rely on
There’s few characters left at this point, so I don’t think there are too many unusual turns the story can take.
Wow! Hadn’t thought of that!
It’s about time Bran did something.
How do the actual story ends in the books?
You know that is really interesting. Jon has been fighting. sansa saved Jon’s hide in the battle of the bastards. Arya has done her bit. Bran hasn’t done a darn thing.
It doesn't, and therein lies the problem.
The series was supposed to be seven volumes but Martin only wrote 5. The sixth was supposed to bring on winter and the Night King, but never got written, although there were rumors it was underway. Nothing about the seventh.
That’s just it - Martin hasn’t finished the books, so there is currently no end to the story..aside from what the show writers come up with.
Martin has apparently given them an outline of how things end..but has also said that aside from the overall gist that story arcs for “secondary characters” (which could include pretty much anyone aside from Daenerys, Jon and Cersei) are likely to be much different when..err..IF..he finishes the books.
There is a lot that bothers me. But I’ll just mention one thing:
Viewers saw Cersei and Jaime in the basement of the Red Keep. We saw the building fall in on them. They are dead. We know this. I see no possibility that they will somehow show up in the final episode.
However —
No characters in the show knew that they were in the basement of the Red Keep. No one in the show saw them die. No one in the show knows what happened to Cersei and Jaime.
In any logical story telling, the characters in the show would wonder what happened to them. Did they escape? Are they in Pentos? Will they return?
But it seems clear that no characters in the show will lose any sleep over this. They are both dead. The viewers saw them die, and so the characters in the show know that they are dead.
That’s sloppy story telling.
Bran would know..
Did you really see them die?
I think Bronn winds up on the throne. Longshot but something tells me it’s quite possible
