Woman, man accused of plotting deadly home invasion [SC]
Lexington County, SC Sheriff's Department ^ | 518/2019 | Capt. Adam Myrick

Posted on 05/19/2019 7:23:10 AM PDT by Gamecock

A Lexington woman and a Columbia man have been charged and declared co-defendants in connection with a home invasion that led to the shooting death of a child.

Linda Lyn Monette, 23, who was in the home at the time of the crime, is charged with murder, attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, burglary and armed robbery, according to arrest warrants. Monette was previously charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and obstruction of justice in connection with the incident.

Reynerio Rafael Romero Jr., 24, is charged with being an accessory to murder before the fact and criminal conspiracy, according to warrants.

“Over the course of our investigation, we’ve gathered information indicating Monette actively conspired with Romero to plan and carry out the armed robbery in the 100 block of Cedar Vale Drive,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “The plan was for someone to burglarize the home and take several pounds of marijuana, which was known to be in the residence.”

Romero and Monette are being held in the Lexington County Detention Center, according to Koon.

“Multiple detectives are still hard at work on this case as we seek to identify and locate another co-defendant,” Koon said. “This was not a random act and it will take us some time to sort out who knew and did what.”

Koon said tipsters can remain anonymous when they share information by calling Crimestoppers at 888-Crime-SC, logging onto www.midlandscrimestoppers.com and clicking on the "Submit a tip" tab, or by downloading the P3 Tips app for their Apple or Android device.

One life pro tip I have heard:
Don’t want to be the victim of violent crime? Stay away from drugs.

BOTH these perps have the standard look of “dead eyes” and a complete lack of a conscience. Hopefully the investigators will soon find out the identities of the “contracted” home invaders.

Yep - and if you can’t do that, don’t deal drugs as it gets you in touch with the scum of the earth (of course, drug dealers with children present are also scum of the earth)...

I typically don’t ping ‘chat’ articles. Have gotten complaints from some on the ping list.

A child dies because two deadbeats are trying to make a quick buck.

Yes. Unless you grow your own (and keep very quiet about it) or you live in a state where marijuana is legal, a big down side to pot, is the fact that you are forced into associating with criminals—sometimes very serious criminals.

A former student of mine was involved in a drug crime many years ago. Basically, he and his friends tried to steal some pot from someone they knew had some. By the time they were finished, three people in the home were dead, the teen dealer, his mom and his retarded brother.

One of the bunch got the needle, and the other two (including my former student) got 45 years—15 for each death. I’ve recently heard that the former student is out now—hopefully he’s turned his life around.

Corrected it. It's the illegality of a drug that both drives up its market value and denies its owners the protections of property law, which are incentives to attempted theft. AFAIK this doesn't happen with the legal drug alcohol, nor to licensed pot shops in legalizing states.
