The Far Side is insane...only one other cartoon comes close, Bloom County. If you like Far Side I bet you like Bloom County too. I’ve been a huge fan of both for along time, have the book with the cow cartoon you mentioned. Another one I always remember is the “harmburger and meanball sandwich”...I think both were in the same book. Cartoon of both with teeth and growling... Been trying to remember the name and it escapes me...I think it was Wildlife Preserves...cover picture is animals in jars...I have that one and the Far Side Gallery around here. Probably others...
Then there’s this thread from a couple of years ago, internet search turned it up...

I have a couple of Far Side books around here somewhere, krazy stuff. Just found most of the Bloom County books at a resale shop, including one with the “Billy and the Boingers” record in it. (guess you had to be there) Sent it to my brother. He had never found the record, this one was still attached. Calvin and Hobbes is an old favorite too. Calvin is a little maniac...
And how can I omit 11 twisted facts about far Side...

I was given a gift of the encyclopedic collection of his works (two, large, fat, full color, full page volumes, it is wonderful!
I don't post his cartoons anymore because I read his heartfelt "A Note From Gary Larson" where he tries as nicely as he can to ask people not to post his cartoons online (a largely losing battle!) and I admit I miss posting them, because I got a lot of enjoyment out of offering them up to people at certain points in conversations to make a point.
And Gary Larson ALWAYS had one that was appropriate for the situation.
My favorite is the one of a pilot and his copilot, the view from just in back of them so you see them and the view in front of them out the windscreen. There is a break in a cloud and a mountain goat looking at them. The Copilot is saying to the Pilot: "Say...what's a mountain goat doing way up here in a cloud bank?"
Classic. Just classic. I would always use it when there was a discussion involving a human who, in some situation, completely did not register the reality of it. Kind of similar to a woman who accidentally walks onto a mens room, and looks at the urinals in puzzlement thinking "What are urinals doing in here?" instead of immediately thinking "OMG...I'm in the men's room!"
Happens to all of us...:)
