What don’t you understand about this?

High school is four years, when I attended there were three terms for a total of 12 terms.

There were seven periods in each day, and you likely took a class during each period, wether it was math, English, History, Science, Art, Shop, PE or Shop to name many.

If I recall correctly you needed 80 passing credits to graduate, out of a possible available 84.

I took 12 credits of Math (four years) and 21 credits of science (seven years).

I never took an Art class but lots of English, History and the like.

Three were lots of classes that losers took to get easy grades...

“...then I must have been in HS for 100 years.”

Seems like I’ve been trying to ‘splain this to you for a hundred years...

“James transferred to the newly formed Cleveland Central High in 2017 after a federal judge ruled that the Mississippi school district was illegally segregating black and white students in two different schools”

I read the article and as stated above she did transfer into a newly formed school. It doesn’t seem fair the the dude that qualified for salutatorian would be knocked out of that position by someone who transfers in at the last minute and take his place. Why didn’t the school systems get together and agree that for that class the graduation ceremonies and honors awards be held for the respective classes at their old school.

You wrote “In HS I took 7 years of science classes and every math class I could.”

That sure sounds like you spend 7 years in high school. Years of HS is a lot different than the credits you took.

Rather testy on a Friday afternoon, BB. Go have a beer.

There’s more to this than meets the eye I’m sure. I’m from Mississippi and every public school administrator in the state is so scared of being accused of racism that there’s no way they’d do anything that would give a white student an honor ahead of a black student. They would do everything they could to make sure the valedictorian and salutatorian are black if they can spell their own name. The social justice atmosphere is so strong in Mississippi today that the mere suggestion of a racial preference in favor of a white student would immediately drive administrators to fainting spells.

If this young lady was number three in her high school class she’d have a full ride scholarship to the University of Mississippi anyway since she’s black, whether or not she was salutatorian . She wouldn’t need to be salutatorian for that. Something doesn’t add up about this story.

Huge difference between AP classes and on level classes. No way a kid who gets straight As on level is the same caliber as the kid who gets straight As on an AP path.

The AP curriculum is super rigorous. On level is very basic and light work load -- designed to get them out the door. AP is designed for higher level studies-STEM, etc. It's also the only really buffer you have from the rabble other than home schooling.

who wasn’t married, so he likely didn’t have much to look forward to.

Except keeping the money he earned, and having the freedom to do with it what he wanted.

You are so correct. On the other hand, I am not sure that was his choice or the result of his personality. In hindsight, to be fair, being short, balding, and in a dead end job may influence one’s view on life.
