I can pack everything in a backpack regardless of the trip length. The key is taking clothes that dry quickly, you won’t need to bring so many clothes. I literally wash the clothes when I take a shower and use the excess shampoo as detergent.

Especially on that 100% Wool suit.

You’re probably not a woman or traveling with one...LOL!

I am, and we need more clothing than you guys do. I mean, we want to look nice, the men we are traveling with want us to look nice, and we definitely wouldn’t wash our hair in anything that could be used as a detergent!

Otherwise, yes, I’m in favor of keeping things to a minimum. I travel a lot and take a modest amount of stuff (enough to look good!) but I usually check one bag simply because I need things that can’t go through the TSA carry-on screening (in terms of quantities of liquids, etc.). Also, I don’t like being in the stampede to get carry on space, so I just take a small bag of stuff that I need and will fit under the seat, and then everything else goes in my checked luggage. If I get it (and I usually do, or it’s delivered the next day) I’m fine but if not I’ll live.

However, when I’m at the airport, I do see people - usually an older couple - checking in two enormous bags apiece and I can’t imagine either what they’re going to do with all that stuff or how they think they’re going to move it around!
