Lori Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli didn’t fully grasp that their alleged bribery in the college admissions scandal was illegal, a source familiar with the case tells PEOPLE.
“You read the complaint and they look like criminal masterminds,” the source tells PEOPLE. “But they really didn’t know the legalities of what was going on. They’re not lawyers and they’re not experts. They were parents who simply wanted to make sure that their daughters got into a good school.”

“Calling in favors, donating money to the alumni association, hiring consultants. Those are all things that parents do,” says the source. “And so they gave money to this consultant, not entirely knowing everything that was going to be done. When it all fell apart, nobody was as surprised as they were that they were in trouble.”

Because they’re such good people, or at least that’s the image they’re so desperately flailing at maintaining.
Their problem was that they weren’t taxed enough, and therefore...they had all this money burning a hole in their pocket. So why not dispose of it via the college ‘gimmick’?
Ignorance of the law is no excuse, neither is it a defense in a court of law.

The explanation at sentencing might have helped if they were apologetic and had plead guilty to the most generous offer...
Instead she was indignant and out on the court house steps signing autographs on their court date... so I say she gets what she gets, including all the other charges they were going to overlook added back in.

Remember, they think they are our superiors and that they must never be prosecuted for illegal activities. They will use every excuse in the book including ignorance. Expect a counter accusation soon or projecting blame onto someone else like the school for ‘tricking’ them or maybe a lawyer for providing bad council.

Probably. The college they picked was local and convenient to them I’m guessing so they picked the easy bribery route which no doubt is common in the social group they mix with. What they and we the great unwashed observers are surprised about is that anyone was charged with this. Someone had an axe to grind to get an unenforced law suddenly enforced.
