Kate Smith, the Songbird of the South, was a Christian patriot who was loved by millions. Comrade Robeson, on the other hand was a hard-core Stalinist who shilled for the Vozhd and even betrayed his friend Itzik Peffer, an imprisoned Soviet poet, when he refused to act on his behalf and spurned Peffer's entreaties to tell the world about Stalin's human rights abuses. Yet no statues of the vile traitor Robeson will be coming down soon.
