Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Money or sex... Two top reasons, sight unseen.
Tolls are fashia.
Tolls are fashist.
The story did not give a party affiliation, so I assume he is a Dim, which should be a safe bet anyway given the makeup of Maryland these days.
Fashionable or fascist?
Sex? This is Maryland we're talking about, not Utah.
Ten bucks says he's expecting a target letter from a US Attorney in connection with missing $$$ and/or bribery.
Is it possible to be both simultaneously?
Not necessarily. The current guv is a second term R (mostly in name, only). The last time we had an R guv, Bob Ehrlich, a lot of higher positions in the state gov were re-stocked with R’s. This guy is white so I assume he was not a hold-over from the last D state administration. It sure is a local mystery and I, for one, am curious. Odds are its gambling, sex, drugs, racial no-no’s on that pesky social media, or kiddie porn on his harddrive.
"I'm guessin sticky fingers"
Fachiatist
Agreed, story in hours or day or so.
We will find out in 48 hours that he was busted with a midget hooker, or something like that.
Do you mean “fascist”?
Yeah, I can never get over the fact that there is no “h” in there.
Spe3lChk don’t help....
‘He led the 1,700-employee agency since January 2017.’
1700 people are needed to collect tolls. That’s about $300 MILLION in annual personnel costs, and God knows what they pay for contractors.
That is all money which could have been spent on highways...
$300 million could build a decent stretch of six-lane highway in Texas, where the land is mostly flat, including all the overpasses needed so that cross-streets won’t be broken in two.

Absolutely. And it can even go further in widening some of the rural interstates. For example, between Dallas and Houston on I-45 there is something like 150 miles of 2-lane freeway. Pretty much all of the overpasses there are very wide and can easily handle 3 lanes, maybe 4 lanes. So just drop a ribbon of concrete in each direction and you won’t need the privately-funded [but publicly backed] high-speed rail that no one will use - instead they can take Megabus for about 10 percent of the cost.
