I love Trump but kind of wish the Republicans (I know Trump didn’t write it) would have spent a little more time debating/looking at ramifications concerning a few changes they made. I looked at the tax return and I have no idea how anyone would be able to fill out the long form themselves...

“You’re probably in a higher income bracket than the rest of us Armchair Quarterbacks”

I don’t think so!! I am actively keeping my income down for the next couple of years until I reach 65. If I make >400% poverty level, I loose my Obamacare subsidy and I am NOT giving that up that nice big juicy chunk of tax free cash. Doing that would be, as you say, feeding the beast!

“it’s really not that hard to figure out what you’ll owe and how much your deductions should be from your paycheck each week”

I think that for a depressing number of people, tax withholding is the only “saving plan” they have or ever will have. But the issue of reduced refunds has me wondering. When they change the tax code, they have to issue new withholding tables. Could it be that the Deep State deliberately set them up so there would be lower refunds, giving the legacy media fake news they could use to bludgeon POTUS?

I paid about $900 less in taxes...did you compare your actual taxes paid from last year, or just go by the refund/payment of this year?

You’re right about that, and about ANYTHING positive being turned into a negative if President Trump is involved.

I wish you the best! I’ve always lived frugally, but I’m in lock-down mode until I can draw my SS in another 3 years, too!

“Hi & Lois”

I noticed that too. If it were not for Obamacare and my HSA, my return this year could have just about fit on a postcard. For the first time since the 70’s I did not itemize.

Why do they have to politicize everything? Even the cartoons. If they want to reflect our current culture, then Hi should be living in a studio apartment and forking over half his income to Lois, who has the house, the kids (which Hi is allowed to see for 3 hours once a month), child support and alimony. As an occasional joke, Hi would get behind on payments and go to jail for a while. Ha Ha Ha!

I keep trying to give the strip another chance and they always let me down. At least Drabble manages to stay apolitical.

Sometimes they step over the line, like the Non Sequitur guy did. I though what happened to him was just a riot!

“Has ANY President done this for you...ever? Not for me!”

1972 and 1988-2012 I had about the same gross income and from the same sources, consulting and collecting rent.

1972 my cost of government was about 10% of my gross.

1988-2012 my cost of government was about 45-47% of my gross each year. My cost of government includes Federal, state & local, taxes, fees and takings by whatever name.

I did receive less of a refund than I did last year, but that was because I received more take home pay and less federal taxes were taken out of my paycheck. Only complaint I have with the new tax law is that I wish the standard deduction and personal exemption were not combined to form a bigger standard deduction. I would have been able to itemize and receive a bigger refund had they remained separate. It would help someone like me who doesn’t make a lot of money.
