A little ancient history for your Thursday morning. Note that this is an effective rebuttal to those who ascribe to the lie that Christians were somehow "anti-science" while pagans were all about preserving ancient literature and knowledge.
An interesting letter. Julian is against lynching, but believes George may have deserved being condemned to death legally...even though he was someone who had lent books to Julian in the past.
His refusal to do anything to the people who lynched George might be comparable to an official in the early 20th century who might decry lynching but would not try to punish the lynchers even when their identities could be determined.
