But it’s telling that he’s angry at the test and not at the city’s public schools, which he runs, for failing to provide black and Latino children with an education that would make them competitive.

Black and Latino children as a group under-perform statistically everywhere, not just in New York when compared to other groups. Blaming the tests or the schools is stupid, the obvious answers to this riddle are all considered “racist”.

it’s hard to discern a bright moral line between Harvard’s giving some applicants an unearned point boost (or point penalty) based on race, and Ms. Huffman’s daughter’s allegedly getting a point boost from someone correcting her answers.

It's sorta like the moral difference between a guy holding you up on the street to get money to buy food and the government taking the money from you to give food stamps to the guy.

When evil rises in the world it repeats the same errors, follows the same script, and has the same enemies. It's logical that it would... it has the same author.

We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal...

Where find that all men are not equal, you find the rising tide of evil. That occurs in Islam where infidels are dhimmis, it occurred in Nazi Germany with dehumanizing the Jews, it occurs in all socialist states where some animals are more equal than others, and it is occurring here where only self-described "elites" are fit to govern, celebrity and depravity elevate stature, and babies are an inconvenience.

May God have mercy on our nation.

Breaking news rich people have it easier and have giant advantages in life. Its harder for poor whites/blacks to make it or become doctors etc. Donald Trump John Mccain and George Bush are who they are because of their fathers and OJ would have gone to jail if he couldn’t afford a fancy lawyer

Feels like you are making the class warfare arguements we accuse liberals of

Eventually the SAT itself will succumb to charges of being RAAAAAACIST and will fade away into history, like the one-room schoolhouse and the chalk board.

The “obvious answer” is that people who study hard get ahead in school, no matter where they start out.

Some people choose to focus heavily on their studies. They tend to do well in school.

Some people choose to work hard at their jobs. They tend to do well at work.

Some people choose to focus more on having fun in life. They tend to have a lot of fun.

Most of us are a combination of the three.

But it’s all about the choices we make.

What’s the moral difference between Ms. Huffman’s getting her daughter into college with an SAT score she didn’t earn and Harvard’s institutionally elevating the lower test scores of whites, blacks and Latinos above the higher scores of Asian-Americans?

Absolutely no difference

They do it with “gifted” classes right down through the elementary school level.

That is a fact!

Our kids were in it, but they said the daughter was in because she worked too hard?

That is one of the “racist” answers that I was referring to. How dare you imply that groups of children are failing to perform because they come from a cultures that do not encourage hard work and commitment. /s

Well, the ATGSB has a bunch of guys who all went to business school in the Midwest. And, in this era, 70’s, people were not as likely to show up with the east coast liberal arts look. In the ACT, there were people that showed up and looked 10 years older than the high school juniors and seniors. This would not be a problem but most “adult” college applicants took the SAT.

And, we did have a guy who took the ACT two consecutive SAturdays which you can’t do. I did not notice him, but the proctor who did kept quiet about it. I probably proctored 100 of these tests so you get a feel for it. And, UC Cincinnati was a small venue. Never more than 100 kids.

One of the reasons our nation is going down the $h!tter is because we’re being lead by stupid people with fancy degrees from Ivy League institutions.

“On Monday Ms. Huffman agreed to plead guilty to a single count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.”

Was the US Postal Service involved?

If no mail, no mail fraud.

Mark Riddell was given signature sample so he could forge it. How about fingerprints? And you should only take it at your high school where they know you.

Parents and student should be aware that only a small percentage of colleges can afford to be highly selective.

If you can do the work and your parents can pay $$$$$, most colleges would be glad to accept an average student.

what about the signature on test?

I guess if the guy was smart enough to get high SAT scores on demand he was also smart enough to figure out how to make a signature close enough to the original.

Great post.

Today there are no more excuses. Even in the worst urban schools a student can study on their own time using the Internet in the public library (if the school library is unsafe).

If they want to learn they can learn—about anything.

If they don’t want to learn they will learn nothing about nothing.

The learners may have to keep it a secret—don’t want to be caught “acting white”.

Exactly.

I never will understand why people are so desperate to get into a prestigious college.

Why would you beg somebody to take your money?

There’s 1000’s of colleges out there that want your money.

Make THEM beg YOU.
