Drugs to stop aging have been just around the corner since at least the 1970s. I remember reading an article in Science Digest in the mid 1970s that confidently predicted that a treatment to stop aging was only 5 to 10 years away. Of course, at the same time they were also predicting Global Cooling and the coming of the next ice age.

Just what we need, healthier rats
Growing old, by definition, is not a disease, it is natural. What defines a drug or med device is to (basically) treat or fix a negative issue.
The same reason why birth control was not covered by insurance but viagra was covered.
The rules have been changed and by treating many coming medical ailments by reversing the aging process, the path has been cleared of obstacles.
