What makes a great movie? *snip* We all know that it takes the combination of a good script, good acting, and good directing to make a film worth watching. But the one thing that makes a good film great is those movie moments that stir our emotions and go on to last for as long as our minds will allow us to remember.

Something nonpolitical for a Sunday. Here are their top ten movie moments. As usual, your mileage may vary. Clips of the scenes are at the link.

1. The Pianist: Szpilman Plays for German Soldier
2. Saving Private Ryan: Storming Omaha Beach
3. The Shawshank Redemption: Red's journey to meet Andy on the Pacific
4. The Shawshank Redemption: Tarring the License Plate Factory
5. Field of Dreams: Father and Son Play Catch
6. Reservoir Dogs: Like a Virgin at Breakfast
7. The Majestic: Peter Appleton's Courtroom Speech
8. Full Metal Jacket: Meet Sgt. Hartman
9. There Will Be Blood: Daniel Plainview's Baptism
10. American Beauty: Filming the White, Plastic Bag

If you've got a mind to, post any scenes that you think should have been in the top ten.

As for me, I would've put in the scene where the bar patrons in 'Casablanca' sing La Marseillaise. But I guess that movie - like me - is too old.

La Marseillaise

Too many of these lists suffer from the “recency effect”. And the “load more” button, which basically means “load more ads”

Any list which includes “American Beauty” is suspect unless it is a list of worsts.

I must admit that I never heard of that movie before I saw it on the list.

I have three relatively new ones:

1. Florida Project: When Moonee, suddenly, understands that she'll have to be separated from her mother, she runs away to the neighboring motel to say goodbye to her friend Jancey. With Moonee sobbing in the doorway and barely able to speak through her tears, Jancey then grabs Moonee's hand for a getaway.

2. Room: The whole "Jack's escape form the shed scene."

3. A Star is Born: The final scene in which Lady Gaga sings the powerful ballad "I'll Never Love Again".
