Did you hear him say between innings he was “warming up in centerfield with the left fielder, working on his pitches”? If he starts an inning in center and comes in to pitch THAT inning, no bullpen warming up. That, I have never seen happen with a serious pitcher in a critical situation.

Yes, that would be pretty amazing. . Speaking of position players pitching, tonight the Diamondbacks had a backup catcher pitch to the Dodgers. Basically, all he threw were 55 mph knuckle balls. The Dodgers turned them into gopher balls & scored about 8 runs off of him. Then the Dodgers put in catcher Russell Martin to pitch the 9th, and didn't give up a run.

Not so different from another pitcher/hitter long ago. Guy named George Herman Ruth. Gotta play talent.

I've seen when a team wanted to put a lefty in for a single batter, the manager stuck the righty in the outfield so he could be brought back for the following batter.

Could this happen in the American League with the eeeeevil designated hitter rule?

Yep. He even made a few cameo appearances as a pitcher again once he became a full-time outfielder.

You’re thinking of Lorazepam. It keeps the field calm.
