I’ve resigned myself to just getting a new cheap printer every now & then - cheaper than getting ink refills (and hoping they work).

I am actually interested in feedback on an inexpensive lazer printer.

Small, cheap, and not a hassle to reload.

If anyone knows of good inexpensive lazer printers, would be interested in hearing from you. Maybe something available in Walmart, perhaps?

My wife and I print a lot, so frequent ink refills are a fact of life for us. Costco had a good looking HP All-In-One, for $89, but a set of extra cartridges was almost as much as the printer. Even the non-OEM cartridges on Amazon were prohibitively expensive. I checked on my phone while looking it over. They also had a nicer model Epson Workforce on sale for $99, but it too used very expensive cartridges. The printer that I go cost me just $30 for ten extra non-OEM cartridges from Amazon. A few months ago I got a bunch of cartridges for my little backup printer for just $1 a piece. I would have bought more, but they tend to go bad in about a year.

I have been refilling cartridges and switching inexpensive printers to continuous ink flow systems for decades now. If you buy bad ink it can be a nightmare. But if you don't feel like messing around with that the non-OEM cartridges which have good ratings on Amazon are generally a fraction of the price. Currently with this new printer I currently don't have time to mess around much with it which is why I spent the $30 for a couple extra sets of cartridges. These have chips designed to work with the latest firmware on the printer I purchased.

I don’t print a lot and got sick of my ink constantly dries out.

I threw my current printer to the curb and bought a multifunction laser.

There are no “best” inkjet printers. All of them, or at least the five brands I have owned over the years, last about a year give </i>or take</i> a couple of months. I can’t say they are programmed to die because they all expire of different diseases but expire they do.

I either refill the cartridges myself or get them from ebay. You can buy the ink by the bottle.

Actually I can’t say that for Brother. My Brother inkjet never started to work. I got it replaced through Customer Service and the replacement didn’t work for a different reason. I raged on the phone with them until they gave me my money back and I shipped both back to Brother on their dime. I now get my printing done at a shop in town.

I'm in the business and my company manages large fleets of printers. We have a saying "printer as a part."

Basically what that means is that it is cheaper for us to replace a printer than to send somebody out to fix it. So unless we can get it running over the phone with the end user, we ship the new printers out to them with a return label. The older printers come back and we either fix them in-house and put them on the shelf (to send to somebody else)) or we trash them.

That’s what gets me. I don’t use printers enough to keep the ink cartridges from drying out. What a huge waste of money.

I found the best way is to but a printer based on the capacity of the carts , and the price, and then find a printer that uses them.

The HP 950xl holds 3oz, and you can get all 4 carts for under 11.00 right now. I am not the seller.
