A lot of people had measles in 1961. And your point is?
“I had measles in 1961.”
Back in the ‘50s and ‘60s, I didn’t know anyone who didn’t get measles. I vaguely remember Mom putting me in bed in a dark room for a few days when I had it.
I had measles, mumps and chicken pox.
I grew up in the 1940-50 era, with a neighborhood full of war baby kids (pre-boomers). Parents would willingly let kids go play/visit with kids infected with red measles or mumps.
I caught both from playmates before I was six (1st grade) and my folks knew how to care for me (dark room, etc.). We stayed away from kids with German measles, scarlet fever, polio or whooping cough, though.
