I don’t have any problem with people who go see it, in the same way I don’t have any problem with people who watch NFL games, use the Microsoft Operating System, or buy at Walmart/Target/JC Penney/Dicks Sporting Goods.

I believe those are decisions people can and should make on their own and I don’t judge them on that. We aren’t the left, and we don’t subscribe to the hive mentality they do. We believe in personal freedom, and that extends to seeing a movie or a sporting event.

I do judge the motives behind the making the movie and the public statements of the woman starring in it, and so won’t see it.

But that is my business.

We went to see this movie Friday night. We walked into the theater about 15 minutes before the movie was supposed to start, and there were literally no other customers in the lobby—no one in line for tickets, and no one in line for refreshments. It was downright eerie. The only other people we saw were employees. Once we were seated, we saw a few other moviegoers, and a few came in during the trailers, but the theater was not even half full. Very strange for a Friday night.

Poorly written. The supporting cast was really good, especially Jackson and Mendohlson. The leading so-called “lady”? Hands down the worst part of the film. I had low expectations for her as it was, but she managed to duck them anyway. She was really, really bad. Even my kids, who love all things Marvel, were generally underwhelmed. They thought the cat was great, though.

The lead actress did exactly what she was asked to do, blaming her is just folks engaging in confirmational bias. The problem with Captain Marvel, is, and always has been, far more than any movie script, its that the character herself is just not that interesting and never has been.

Your claim says that actors have no input into their character. That is not true. If it was true, then actors would be interchangeable in any role.

No I am saying an actor does what they are told, if you think an actor trumps a director you have no idea how film making works.

Of course they don’t. But bad actors give bad performances. And she was terrible.

Again, you are just echoing your confirmational bias.... She didn’t act badly, she acted exactly how she was directed to. The problem as I stated elsewhere isn’t with the script, the movie or the actress... or even the directing, While there certainly were problems with the script and directing..... the true problem with CM problem is that the underlying character just isn’t interesting, not in the comics and not on screen.

I can cite you tons of examples of bad acting, her acting wasn’t bad, it was simply what they asked her to do, which she did, was just boring because the underlying character is boring.

You want bad acting, go rewatch the last star wars films... Rose Tico character was handled by a bad actor... Go to the prequels... the guy who played the Adult Anakin was a BAD ACTOR...

Bad Acting is when the director tells you to do something and you aren’t able to deliver it... The actress playing Captain Marvel didn’t fail to act and deliver as directed... the weakness was not in her performance, but as I stated in the overall character.

The current incarnation of Captain Marvel, just isn’t an interesting character, period.... not in the comics, and not on film. This isn’t a fault of the actress. Could the writing have been better? Sure... the film starts to fall apart in the second act, and is completely off the tracks in the third act, but that’s not the actresses fault... That’s the fault of bad writing, direction and editing...

Its a MEH movie, 3 out of 5 stars, not their best, not even close, and certainly not their worst, not even close.

I am no fan of the actress myself, but she didn’t deliver a bad performance, or bad acting, just had a snooze of a character to portray. She portrayed it as directed... and frankly as currently conceived... unfortunately the character just isn’t all that interesting, never has been.

The argument you use with Ms. Larson is the same I heard for years with Hayden Christensen. "He's a good actor, it was just a terrible script and Lucas can't direct." Then he was terrible in his follow-up movies, too.

I don't know anything about Captain Marvel the character beyond what I saw in the movie. I also didn't know anything about Wonder Woman until I saw her film. Gal Gadot, while not much of an actress either, was able to convey dignity, strength, warmth, and ferocity. Larson looked huffy the entire movie, like she lost a bet and had to read some lines as recompense.

The script fumbled the ball numerous times (where was the fish-out-of-water aspect of her landing in 1990s LA? what was her character arc? why is the theme of her needing to give in more to her emotions so important yet she fails to convey emotions the entire film? why should the audience feel anything for her when she's never in danger and "got this" 100% of the time? why is her friend leaving her daughter behind for an extremely dangerous mission in space treated as a joke rather than a serious, weighty decision?), but a skilled actress could bring some charisma to the role at least.
