I tend to believe this started under Carter, when they took over the embassy in Iran. The Shah, like all of the secular rulers in that region, kept these people in check. If that meant putting them in prison until they lost their will to do anything or chopping their heads off, so be it. When Carter, et al forced the Shah to get out of Iran, he ushered in all this bullsh*t. There have been lots of events since then and before the second attack on the Trade Center, that should have woken us up.
