Welcome to the world of Scambaiting! (vigilantism against scammers)

Does somebody want to transfer millions of dollars into your account?

Does someone want to pay you to cash cheques and send them the money?

Met a new friend/penpal on a friendship/dating site who's asking you for money?

Has a dying person contacted you wanting your help to give his money to charity?

Have you sold an item and are asked to accept a payment larger than the item amount?

IT'S A SCAM!

Don't fall for common scams like this - fight them!

So what is scambaiting? Well, put simply, you enter into a dialogue with scammers, simply to waste their time and resources. Whilst you are doing this, you will be helping to keep the scammers away from real potential victims and screwing around with the minds of deserving thieves.

It doesn't matter if you are new to this sport or a hardened veteran; if you are wasting the time of a scammer, or frustrating them in any way well that's good enough for us, and we would welcome you to join with our now very large community.

A friend mentioned this website - the whole idea behind it is that for every minute a scammer's time is wasted being scambaited, it's a minute away from harming someone. This website has provided me with hours of enjoyment, reading about people's scambaiting sagas with awesome results.

Be sure to check out the Letters Archive where you can read about vigilantism at its finest, and also check out The Trophy Room of pictures of the scammers holding signs at the request of the scambaiters that they hope will lead them to riches.

How about we execute them instead and actually end the problem. Here or abroad, Delta needs practice.

This guy on You Tube is very good at baiting these dirtbags, especially the ones posing as Microsoft tech support and the IRS scammers.

I remember the good old days when scammers would give you an 800 number to call. I would write it down and the next time I was at the mall I would go to the row of pay phones (remember those, kids?) and dial the number on each one and leave the phone off the hook. It would cost me nothing and the scammer would not only have to pay for the call but they would have to pay a surcharge to reimburse the pay phone owner.

It was a small victory, but it cost them real money and time.

The latest scam I've gotten a few calls from is someone wanting to pray for me. I bet it will cost a few bucks to get those prayers actually said.

A little off topic but it’s fun to hand a phone with a salesman on the line to a two-year-old.

I found that site maybe ten years ago and don’t think I’ve laughed so hard at anything online before or since! The epitome of “don’t get mad, get even”!

The Road to Darfur was pretty good as the scammer got 2 of his relatives in trouble. Wont give the whole story away but here it is:

The lengthy, time-wasting "form" he made one Nigerian scammer fill out and send back is hilarious (this is just 1 page of it, it goes on & on) -

When I get a voicemail from the IRS threatening me with arrest if I don’t call them back, they get a call from an anxious Nigel Tufnel or Graham Chapman, Esq. wanting to make a payment. When they ask for an address I give them 1060 W. Addison St in Chicago. I hang up right when they ask for a credit card number. Again, every moment they waste on me is a moment they can’t prey on some poor soul.

For a time I would talk about my fantasies concerning Rachel with the friendly callers who promised lower interest rates. I always asked to talk to her but for some reason she was always busy. So frustrating.

I actually enjoy the scammers especially the “Microsoft” guys.

The call, and I break out my Linux system and drive them up the wall with it.

Then I get them to give me THEIR IP address, and then begin a DoS attack on them from multiple locations.

It’s really funny when they start complaining that their computer is slowing down, and they can’t figure out why. Bit by bit, I keep launching larger and larger attacks. Then I deliver the Coup d’Grace and lock them up. When they are completely locked up, I tell them it was I who launched a DoS attack on THEM and tell them that I will release the DoS if they PAY ME $500.

I haven’t had one of those calls in over a year since I did this last.

He’s the best there is. He can actually get into the scammers’ system and destroy their computers.

Very entertaining. I’ve spent hours listening when I probably should’ve been doing something else.
