Only after Israel regained the area known as the West Bank (Judea and Samaria), and the Gaza Strip, did the Arab leaders and the PLO started calling the residents of those areas “Palestinian”. Before that they referred to themselves as “Arab” or Muslim.

I will never utter the word Palestinian again as long as I live.

Palestine is not a country and never was. The word itself derives from, “Peleshet”, a name that appears frequently in the Bible and has come into English as “Philistine”. The Philistines were not Arabs nor even Semites, they were most closely related to the Greeks. They did not speak Arabic. They were migrants who did not really care for Arabic nor Judean culture or education.
