US air power scares the Russian bear
American Thinker ^ | 02/27/2019 | Ed Timperlake

USAF chief of staff General David Goldfein, reflecting on the success of the F-35 at a recent USAF "Red Flag" exercise, gave both the People's Liberation Air Force and the Russians what we fighter pilots call a "face shot."

Red Flag is a brilliant exercise in which many combat aircraft flying from Nellis AFB engage to simulate real combat scenarios within a well designed and instrumented extremely stressful air combat environment.  A "face shot" is slamming a missile right into the face, head on, of your enemy.

The U.S. Air Force put the F-35 up against "the most advanced weapons systems out there" during the recent Red Flag air combat exercise, and the fight-generation stealth fighters apparently dominated — so much so that even the rookie pilots were crushing it.

The F-35A is "exceeding our expectations when it comes to not only being able to survive, but to prosecute targets," Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Dave Goldfein said Tuesday, according to Air Force Times.

A lasting phrase used by President Obama is actually appropriate in this situation: the Russian are getting all "wee-weed up."

The Russian Embassy in the US took aim at America's F-35 stealth fighters on Friday in a threatening message apparently tweeted in response to an earlier speech by the chief of staff of the US Air Force.

"If a Russia... ever was to see an F-35 inside its airspace', we would love to send Chief of Staff of the [US Air Force] Gen. David L. Goldfein 'message with two words' — 'remember Vietnam," the tweet read, adding, "An F-35 will never be alone."

Okay, "Ivan" — let's remember Vietnam...and now the fights is on!

A historical takeaway from the cold and hot war air battles between the U.S. Air Force and the USSR is that in the air-to-air mission, a country that equips its fighters with airborne radar and sensors allows more autonomous action and actually favors tactical simplicity and operational autonomy — even though the equipment becomes more complex.  In air-to-ground, airborne simplicity indicators are usually smaller formations and allowance to maneuver independently into weapon launch envelopes primarily in a weapons-free environment.  Embedding technology into the weapon itself — bombs and rocket-fired weapons — has also made a revolutionary difference.

They won’t “see” the F-35, they will only feel the effect of its being there.

We remember Vietnam.

Our military won Tet, but Walter Cronkite, "the most trusted man in America" said we were beaten, and congress obediently declared defeat.

Today, there is no one trusted in the press, and congress is too busy enabling the murder of born alive babies to act.

We remember Vietnam. Vietnam is now a trading partner, manufacturing center and part of a stabilizing influence in the area.

"We", that is to say our media-marxist-congressional complex, lost the war, but we won the peace.

Exactly.

We have been ruled by a Mediacracy for at least 50 years, probably 60.

We are not at war with them. This needs to chill down a notch.

Same goes for the first sentence copy and pasted into S&F’s reply: there is a subject, but the predicate is missing altogether.

Plus the air to air kill ratio was like 8 to 1 in our favor by the end of the war after adjustments were made, IIRC.

So OK, remember Vietnam when it comes to air superiority

Exactly. And the fact that Obama “talked-tough” is a complete laugher. The only reason any of these globalist scum hate Russia is because they are someone who stands in the way of US-led NWO Hegemony.

If you really wanna listen to some gut-wrenching Neo-Con cheerleading, tune into Hugh Hewitt every morning. 90% of his show is foreign policy and which new expensive military toy should be funded next.

Sir, neither was the US at actual war with Russia in the 60's-80's. But when you have an enemy with a militaristic egotistical leader longing for the status of Russia in days of the height of the cold war, who engages in provocative behavior towards you, and is aggressive developing more and advanced missiles which he boasts are for your destruction, and has already electronically combated US fighter planes, then you do not actually need to be at war with them to develop equal or superior weapons.

Because of this, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the U.S. would no longer consider itself bound by the treaty's provisions, raising nuclear tensions between the two powers. Putin has also sought to increase Russian territorial claims in the Arctic and its military presence here. In August 2007, Russian expedition Arktika 2007, part of research related to the 2001 Russian territorial extension claim, planted a flag on the seabed below the North Pole.[240] Both Russian submarines and troops deployed in the Arctic have been increasing.[241][242] - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Putin#Military_development

JULY 2017...

Trump, in Warsaw Speech, Criticizes Russia’s ‘Destabilizing’ Role in Ukraine, Syria

The president also reaffirmed his commitment to NATO’s mutual-defense pact

Jul 6, 2017

President Trump called Russia a “destabilizing” influence in Europe and the Middle East, and urged it to “join the community of responsible nations,” in his strongest remarks yet against the regime of Vladimir Putin, whom he is scheduled to meet Friday in Hamburg for the first time.

His remarks in Warsaw’s Krasinski Square, which marks the 1944 Warsaw uprising against the Nazis, came after the U.S. agreed to sell Patriot missiles to Poland. The president also used the opportunity to reiterate the NATO commitment to mutual defense, a declaration he did not make during the NATO summit in May, prompting consternation among U.S. allies wary of Russia’s ambitions.

“To those who would criticize our tough stance, I would point out that the United States has demonstrated—not merely with its words but with its actions—that we stand firmly behind Article 5, the mutual-defense commitment,” Trump said Thursday. “Words are easy, but actions are what matters. And for its own protection, Europe, and you know this, everybody knows this, everybody has to know this, Europe must do more.”

Trump has repeatedly said NATO members must spend more on defense—a position in line with past U.S. administrations. But he has been criticized because he appeared to suggest U.S. commitment to mutual defense was predicated on its allies’ defense spending. ...”

Donald Trump: 'Putin has eaten Obama's lunch, therefore our lunch, for a long period of time'

Mar 13, 2014
Eun Kyung Kim: TODAY SHOW (NBC)

Donald Trump slammed President Obama Thursday on TODAY for failing to take a stronger line against President Vladimir Putin in dealing with Ukraine, saying he feared Obama would now make up for lost time with imprudent moves to "show his manhood."

The real estate mogul and reality-TV star, who has criticized Putin for sending military troops into Crimea, said Obama must now take fierce steps to prevent the situation from escalating further.

"We should definitely do sanctions and we have to show some strengths. I mean, Putin has eaten Obama's lunch, therefore our lunch, for a long period of time," Trump said. ..."

“What we’re dealing with is the — you know, there’s an old proverb that says the Russian bear never dies, it just hibernates.

And the truth of the matter is, the weak and feckless foreign policy of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama has awakened an aggression in Russia that first appeared a few years ago with their move in Georgia, now their move into Crimea, now their move into the wider Middle East.

Putin says Russia isn’t afraid of another missile crisis with US

It isn't all one way. We withdrew from the 1987 Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty because they breached it, which they clearly did, and Putin came back and threatened us:

"...He said Russian armed forces could deploy nuclear missiles on ships and submarines in territorial waters outside the US if Washington begins to move new short- and intermediate-range rockets in Europe. “We can put them, given the speed and range [of our missiles] in neutral waters. Plus, they are not stationary; they move, and they will have to find them,” Putin said. “You work it out. Mach 9 and over 1,000 kilometers,” he added, noting the speed and range of the rockets..."

That said, we should deal with Russia on the basis of what they are, a third world economy with a crappy military, producing weapons with technology stolen from the West and supplying weapons to countries that don't have the means to produce advanced weapons themselves.

They aren't stupid enough to really go to war, so we should largely ignore them and their threats and treat with them for what they are.

From 2014-2015...

How Russia arms America's southern neighbors

Ioan Grillo
May 9, 2014

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Russia's push into Ukraine has put many on edge. But less known is that Russia is also strengthening its military links south of the Rio Grande and re-establishing itself as a power in the region.

Vladimir Putin has been strengthening military links here, and Russia is now the largest arms dealer to governments in Latin America, surpassing the United States.

Russia has even floated the possibility of building new military bases in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, and putting its warships permanently in the Caribbean.

In the midst of the Ukraine crisis, Russia's top diplomat Sergei Lavrov recently visited Cuba, Peru, Chile, and Nicaragua, where he announced that Russia would also pour money into the new Central American canal project. ..."

Russia Boosts Arms, Training for Leftist Latin Militaries

Moscow defense minister inks deals with Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua for joint exercises

BY: Bill Gertz
February 20, 2015

Russia agreed to provide military training for three leftist regimes in Latin America and increase military visits and exercises following a visit last week to the region by Moscow's Defense Minister Sergei Shoygu, Pentagon officials said.

Shoygu met with defense and military leaders in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua and signed several agreements on warship visits and military training during the visit, which ran from Feb. 11 to 14. It is not clear whether any new arms deals were completed during the visit.

Defense officials said the Russian leader is seeking bases in the region for strategic bomber flights that Shoygu recently promised would include flights over the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.
