The bug is faster than the charger. It beats him to several intersections.
Always good for a laugh if one knows San Francisco.
Yes, it’s as if they have a matter transporter.
When Steve McQueen burns rubber in reverse, the rear wheel bounces up and down. Is that a sign that the Mustang has worn shocks on the rear suspension?
For all the lost hubcaps, how many wheels did ther Charger have?
};^)
We all make jokes about it, but at the time, it was the BEST chase!
I think “Ronin” surpassed it.
I just remember they kept passing a green Volkswagen.
I believe that was known as leaf spring “wrap” that caused the wheel hop. The Shelby style “under-ride” traction bars pretty well dampened that problem, but I don’t think the Bullitt car had those mounted.
They brought Steve back for a 2005 Mustang ad, too (based on "Field of Dreams").
Yeah....30 years later
A year after Bullitt we had the original Italian Job. Not as much HP but a good sequence

I see, thanks. He was putting quite a few hp into that rear suspension, in any event.
A guy bought my car and repainted it to look like that car. Added the wheels, too. Wish I had my car back.
He had the nicest Shelby GT500KR I’ve ever seen in person. Of course it was only 10 years old at that time and had obviously been babied. Perfect car.
I watched that a few nights ago by coincidence.
The hubcaps were flying! I noticed that too.
My fastback had a non-posi 8-inch diff (IIRC) - back then it was always the right side that got the power.
Maybe this ‘68 had something else (installed?).
I think Bill Hickman handled everything on the cars.
Yeah, after watching the video, I wondered who was driving the Charger.
So I looked him up on IMDB.
I always wanted a yellow Charger like “Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry” (but NOT with the same ending).
You could tell they rushed the paint job - they opened the trunk at the swap meet (?) and that paint was just globbed on - of course I’m remembering from about 40 years ago when I first saw it. I eventually got a copy - don’t know if I still have it.
