Generally speaking, on public issues, when Christians are the target, Catholics are the bulls-eye.

That is not true, and it's difficult for me to believe you really think that.

The Left's bete noire, at least in the United States, is and shall forever remain poor white Fundamentalist Protestants. Indeed, for all their liberal anti-Catholicism, in any conflict between Fundamentalist Protestantism and Cathlicism the liberal-leftists will always defend the Catholic side (it's the old immigrant-urban-union goon-Democrat thing).

In fact, exactly what do liberals have to object to in the current Catholic Church? It seems to be one of their main engines of destruction.
