I confess. I did see Mary Poppins Returns. It rates a "C" in my book. It just was not compelling and tried too hard to remind us of the original. I thought about seeing Christopher Robin but after reading reviews and seeing the previews decided it was just to negative.

The movies seem to me to be very dark. They work at having dark backdrops and sets and the story lines are rather negative. That is neither entertaining nor enriching to me.

it’s nothing to brag about. You have missed at least two fantastic movies, Vice about Dick Cheney and Bohemian Rhapsody. Why not come out of your shell a little?

I don’t go to the movies, I don’t watch the awards shows, and I haven’t a clue on who the latest actors/actresses are.

I really don’t care and I could never pay what is being charged for a movie ticket.

I had some hot dogs the other day, but no ‘oscar’ meyers. :-)

But we agree with the lack of anything palatable to watch anymore. So, it seems a lot of oldie reboots. We’ve tried some series and been very disappointed. Some can’t get past the first episode without displaying some deviant behavior as if it’s the norm. Well, it’s not at our house so we still pick and choose carefully most of the time. Or back to the library for some books to read.

Nope, haven’t beeen to the movies in years. Didn’t even know it was the award time again until I saw all the articles complaining about them.

LOL, just to be sure, I looked them up and read the list of “Winners”. Jeez! I haven’t even heard anything about any of them much less seen one of them. I could not even imagine “paying” good money to walk into a noisy theater and watch one.

I mostly try to pick something out on Amazon or Netflix once or twice a week. Right now, I am struggling through the latest version of “The Magnificent Seven”. Casting is terrible, writing of the script was surely performed by a feminazi woman (to borrow Rush’s terminology). So, overall, the movie is so PC I spend most of my time just laughing at the screen. All that said, it does pass for “entertainment” these days. Laurie Holden is a knockout! Perlman was great!

Hollywood has fallen and it can’t get up. I have been struggling since 2005 to find a decent movie since then. It has been few and far between PC and CGI dominate the market which is aimed at 14 year old boys. Dialogue is non-existent. Good plots are rare. Good characters are rare. Movies featuring Satan’s minions such as vampires and zombies have saturated the market, as have comic book movies.

As a 60 year old man, I probably watch 5 times more movies on the Hallmark channel than what comes from Hollywood. Hallmark movies may be meant for women and are predictable, sappy, and trite but they have sympathetic characters moving understandable plot lines with happy endings, no nudity, no profanity, strong male role models, women who act like women, no homosexuals, no transexuals, little politics, no car chase scenes, nothing explodes, and you don’t see 400 people shot dead in the opening scene.

Don’t get me wrong, violence, explosions, car chases, nudity, and gun play are all welcome in good movies where they advance the plot line moving characters through the central conflict to the climax. Just most movies today are just phenomenal trash.

“Here is the 2019 list:...”

Considering how we don’t go to the movie house anymore, most movies we see are the ones that finally make it to the small screen thru Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Plex, etc. Admittedly, they arrive pretty quickly nowadays.

Still, I don’t see a thing on that list that I would tune into when they do become available here in our den. I hope the movie-makers can survive off ticket sales to the left-o-crats in this country. Or not.

I’m quite sure that I haven’t watched any oscar nominee movies. If I have, it was by mistake.

Same here.

I DESPISE going to the movies. It’s uncomfortable, popcorn costs about $300.00, and I hate the idea of my $$$ going to some left wing revolutionary cause.

I’ll buy the DVD when it’s available. (Yeah... a little more $$$ to the left. Ugh)

But “They Shall Not Grow Old” is that good.

This is probably the only movie I would pay to see as Robert is a friend of mine:

Mine was "Young Frankenstein" back in the 70's and I left before it was half over but I'm deaf.
I now have a library of over 1600 movies and 78 TV series, all with subtitles but really enjoy old silent movies.

Uh....no.
The only movie I have seen in the theater since 2003 was American Sniper.
No television. No supporting Hollywood.

The only movies to get my $$$ in 2018 were Blade Runner 2049 and Deadpool2.

Award organizations are targetted by and corrupted with lefty political & social activists. Right and center minded people don’t intentionally try to insert themselves into organizations to change them.

I never look toward critics or award givers to decide for me what I should do.

I agree on all points.

The other day, I found William Wyler’s “The Big Country” on Amazon Prime. Fine movie. At least as good as anything on the big screen today.

And I watched in on my new 65” 4K TV with my 7.1 surround sound home theater.

Why pay the big $$$ to watch a movie in a theater?

The last time that I entered a theater to watch a movie is when I went to see “LONE SURVIVOR”.

Watch any? I haven’t even heard of most of them...

Last time I went to see a movie...OK I can’t remember what it was...must have been really memorable...

Last one before that was Dances With Wolves, took my mother to see it on a freezing Christmas weekend when it was brand new. Didn’t tell her a thing, I had seen the sign coming in. Freak weekend, roads covered in ice the last 30 miles or so, almost never happens in East Texas. I was living in Houston, drove here for Christmas weekend. We had nothing but a fireplace, it did little good, house never got above 42°F the whole time, so I suggested we go into town and get some pie...she had no idea what I was up to when I pulled into the local mall and parked...”where are you going???” I just pointed at the sign...

She loved it...since then, I think the last movie I went to see was in about 2005 or 2006 or so, probably a new Star Trek movie. I remember going to the theater but not what movie it was.
